NEW YORK, May 15 (UPI) -- A poll of New York state residents suggests support for legalized gay marriage in the state is growing, with 46 percent in favor and the same number opposing.
Quinnipiac University, which conducted the survey, said overall support for same-sex marriage in New York has made gains since five years ago, when a poll suggested 35 percent supported legalization with 55 percent against.
The poll found 61 percent of respondents between the ages of 18 and 34 support gay marriage, with 33 percent against, while 55 percent of voters over 55 oppose same-sex nuptials, with 37 percent in favor.
By ethnicity, African Americans surveyed said they were opposed to gay marriage by 57 percent to 35 percent, with Hispanics also opposed by 48 percent to 45 percent. White respondents supported gay marriage by 47 percent to 45 percent.
The New York State Assembly voted Tuesday to approve a gay marriage bill that is now being deliberated by the state Senate. Observers said the Senate does not appear to have the votes to pass the measure.

I wouldn’t bet on it.
I still like the way this issue is being handled than how the abortion issue was handled. It is most disgusting that abortion is legal in every state while gay marriage is in 4 (or so). If not for the Supreme Court, we might only have ten states that legalized abortion. The only thing I would change with regards to gay marriage would be that only the people of the state could legalize gay marriage. If the majority of people vote for gay marriage than fine it is legal in that state...however, if the majority of the people do not vote for it than it remains legal. Oh and once a vote is conducted, than the vote cannot come up again for three years. I think that is fair.
Oops...Sorry one change to this sentence.
however, if the majority of the people do not vote for it than it remains legal.
however, if the majority of the people do not vote for it than it remains illegal.

Exactly what?
It's times like this I'm REALLY ashamed of my own race.
I wouldn’t bet that this poll is real nor that NY is lost.
Ax comments were dispicable.
Remember the uproar when Rush was thought to have referred to Chelsea Clinton as a dog.
I would REALLY, REALLY REALLY like to know who is pushing this agenda and who is greasing the dirty palms of the prostitutes we put in office to get this agenda implemented.
It seems to be very well funded, directed and managed.
Bogus poll -
With all due respect, the majority of the people doesn't matter a hill of beans with this issue.
This country was founded on the principle of natural law: "we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights...that to secure THESE RIGHTS, governments are instituted among men....".
Homosexuality runs just as contrary to the natural law as murder or rape. Therefore there can be no right to it no matter what the "majority of people" says.
Bogus is right........no one has EVER asked me what I think. It’s all a fraud.
Not really. In line with my experience that gay marriage in New York is largely supported by younger white folk (socially conservative white folks under 45 in New York state could probably be fit into a phone booth), while blacks, hispanics, and older whites and orthodox Jews are in opposition.
our black Catholic governor is in favor.......go figure.
That's what watching too much Grey's Anatomy and reading Star magazine will do to you.
Thanks for the ping!
Not to worry. Thousands of young liberal New Yorkers are out of work and will be moving back to mommy and daddy in other states.
