Ziauddin Sardar wrote in Nature, “Misplaced faith in science, as rational dogma, as the enemy of pessimism, as a theory of salvation, often serves as the glue that binds modernity and fascism together.”1 Could that happen again?

Sardar, the editor of Futures, was reviewing a new book by Christine Poggi, Inventing Futurism: The Art and Politics of Artificial Optimism (Princeton, 2009). He began,...

This article reminds me of That Hiddeous Strength--the last book of CS Lewis's space trilogy. Has anyone else read it? I have never read a better fictional account of where scientism leads. I would even go so far as to call his book prophetic. All the best--GGG

Using the internet, you can find many reviews of this book. They all contradict the creationists.

The historian, Paul Johnson said:
Expel the priest and you don’t inaugurate the age of reason, you get the witch doctor.”

Faith and science have no real quarrel, as each deals with a separate realm.

That book creeped me out.

Generally I like Lewis but I could not stand that series.

It applies to politics, too - or so I think.

An uninformed electorate got careless, and Ogga Booga the political “witch Doctor” appears.

Now comes the question of how to put Ogga Booga back in the box the Founders so carefully crafted for him.

I read it, years & years ago. I think the points Lewis made, as I remember them, were excellent. But as fantasy, I’ve read better.

Well, at least you aren’t hiding the fact you and your ilk hate science.

Of course the fact you are USING technology (science) to post this is indeed the definition of irony.

The truth shall set you free...
