Military Covering Up Fireballs From Space
FoxNews ^

Posted on 06/11/2009 12:30:47 PM PDT by Scythian

For 15 years, scientists have benefited from data gleaned by U.S. classified satellites of natural fireball events in Earth's atmosphere — but no longer.

A recent U.S. military policy decision now explicitly states that observations by hush-hush government spacecraft of incoming bolides and fireballs are classified secret and are not to be released, SPACE.com has learned.

Still, it was a cool weapon because in one instance it gave Rico-Suave Kirk an opportunity to hug Yeoman Rand. Yowza! >;)

I believe a more correct name would be Yeoman Janice, and yep, she was a looker back in the day. Kirk always got the girl..

OMG, if you zoom in it looks like an airplane just to the right of it on a collision course.

You may have solved the mystery!

Why would we release data that would reveal in minutest detail the capabilities of satellites whose capabilities are supposed to be highly classified? For Fox to put out an article like this is proof positive that dumb libs have taken over the network.

I would consider it good practice to keep the data secret — not because of any meteors, but because of classified satellite capabilities:

1. Imaging (resolution, spectral range)
2. Transmission bandwidth.
3. Orbital location.
4. Orbital maneuvering.

And goodness knows what else that can be deduced.

I love camping! I want to do some cross country stuff for our annual camping trip this fall.. this looks like a fun possibility. How many snakes? I can handle it, I will just sleep in my trunk :) It’s either that, or the gators in Orlando ntl park FLA.. (I have a big, comfy trunk.)

It’s a really pretty area, steeped in history with many outdoor activities.(if you don’t care for the outdoors, they have casinos, shopping, museums, galleries, etc.) They don’t call it the *Land of Enchantment* for nothing.

If you want some further info, feel free to ask.

To be classified as a coverup there must have first been wrongdoing that was covered up. Calling the refusal to release sensor data from classified satellites as a “coverup” is nothing but conspiracy theorist basement dwellers looking to be drama queens.

I think it more likely that they don't want to release data because of what can be deduced from the data about the capabilities and sensitivity of these classified satellite sensors.

Um, that was my point. These pinheads think not releasing classified sensor data is a “coverup”, as though they are entitled to the data.
