UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.
ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.
The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.
Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

I don’t know. She sounds very emotional, though.
One of the prime points we could raise was that Palin had executive experience. Good grief. It’s a wonder we have any feet left these days.

Just heard Bill Kristol say that Sarah Palin may be crazy like a fox, and could be a shrewd decision. I tend to agree.
You may be right. She just wrapped up the TransCanada pipeline deal with Exxon-Mobil which I’m certain played into this. That was an enormous coup, IBD said she blew everyone away getting the biggest, toughest integrated major (Exxon-Mobil) to sign on a project which everyone said was dead. She now feels like her work in Alaska is done and she has bigger fish to fry which is 2010 and yanking the Republican party back to the right and raising money for good candidates.
This woman has shown over and over she is tough as nails so assuming she is stepping back just doesn’t fit with her MO. You know the oil and gas industry is furious over how zer0 is attempting to dismantle the entire industry. I think Exxon Mobil (gave her a message from the entire industry during those negotiations) and wants some payback and as a result she already has some unbelievably deep pockets behind her. They see her as the best candidate to turn things around and she knows the O&G industry as well as any politico out there. IBD said that Exxon Mobil has the toughest investment standards in the entire industry and to get them to sign on was a real mind blower.
This is stunning, but IMO she is far from being done and given what Todd has already stated I think that will become apparent shortly.
Last year I prayed that God would allow us to have her as a national leader. I’ll trust in Him for His answer.
Maybe not. Look who we have now.
I hate to think that those leftist ankle-biters have “won” by harrassing her out of office.

Fox’s second string is not very impressive.
I’ve never heard her rush through a speech like this.
Reagan was an incredibly successful two-term Governor of the most populated state in the Union with an economy that rivaled or surpassed all but a handful of countries.
Sarah Palin needed at least one complete and successful term as Governor for people in America to take her seriously. I can understand her not seeking reelection, because as others have pointed out, it would be logistically impossible to run for president as the sitting Governor of Alaska. I'm more than shocked and at a complete loss as to why she'd quit now, with only a year left on her term.
Something more has to be at play here.

Yes, and they will. Even before the announcement, if you read the multitude of comments on the various links on FR, they were rejoicing - Republicans and Democrats - Sarah Palin scared the crap out of all of them.
This is not one of her finer speaking performances.
