Free Republic Sows Chaos at Daily Kos Over Huffington Post Palin 'Retardation' Article
Sunday, July 5, 2009 | Kristinn

File this under: It ain't braggin' if it's true.

This weekend, Free Republic won a battle in the political and cultural wars over Sarah Palin by exposing an article published by the Huffington Post that mockingly attacked the Alaska governor and her infant son Trig over Trig being born with Down syndrome.

The exposure by Free Republic went viral to Twitter, Newsbusters and Hot Air (includes screen grab) as well as numerous blogs. The Huffington Post pulled the article within hours and issued an apology. The author of the piece of work, Erik Sean Nelson, issued his own apology via e-mail and on the Huffington Post. His claim that he pulled the article himself within ten minutes of it being posted at 6 p.m. EDT Friday, July 3, 2009, is belied by the Huffington Post editor who said it was pulled by HuffPo editors after they became aware of the brewing controversy and by an advocate for the disabled, Patricia E. Bauer, who wrote of seeing the offending article on the Huffington Post at 6:52 p.m. EDT.

A diarist at the Daily Kos wrote an entry late Friday evening Pacific Time with an accurate headline, Huffington Post gives in to Free Republic over Palin article, that provoked chaos at the Daily Kos all weekend.

Here's an excerpt of the piece as originally posted Friday evening:

Huffington Post gives in to Free Republic over Palin article

Fri Jul 03, 2009 at 09:59:34 PM PDT

On this one article it seems like Huffington Post pulled the piece because of Free Republic.

Palin Will Run in '12 on More Retardation Platform

Freepers state that they forced Huffington Post to take down and article by Erik Sean Nelson titled "Palin Will Run in '12 on More Retardation Platform"

Now I did not see the article but when you go to the link for the article, there is no article at all.

SNIP

Freepers are happy that they were able to get Huffington Post to take this article down. Sorry to link to Freepers site

That posting resulted in over a hundred comment, many of them attacking the poster and demanding he pull his article down immediately.

The Sheeping of America or a Daily Kos moderator later changed the title to Huffington Post, Free Republic and a Palin article.

On Saturday, The Sheeping of America posted a groveling apology of his own to the Daily Kos over his article about Free Republic forcing the Huffington Post to pull that offensive article:

I just wanted to apologize to any Kossacks that were offended by the diary that I posted yesterday.

There were a lot of calls to delete the diary and perhaps I should have deleted it right away.

The diary was never meant to offend anyone or pit Huffington Post against Free Republic, because of course Huffington Post would win every time.

Also, I did not mean for any Kossacks to feel under attack or believe that the diary would be used against the Kos community. This was my error and I apologize.

(Well, too late for that....) The apology goes on to talk about how "strong" the Kossacks are and concludes (I kid you not) with You Tube videos of Anita Baker singing "I Apologize" and Elton John singing "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word".

Of course this posting prompted a call for the apology to be taken down:

DELETE THIS DIARY (2+ / 0-)

Recommended by:Clem Yeobright, JVolvo

This is going to destroy Daily Kos.

The Freepers will quote from this and accuse us all of being whining little apologists who can't stand by our convictions.

Delete it now I tell you.

Definition-

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=kossacks

“The name “Kossack” references the Cossacks, an old spelling of the ethnic group now known as Kazaks.

When Russia absorbed Kazakstan into its empire, the Czar used Muslim Kazaks as a special cavalry due to their expert horsemanship and reputation for savage violence.

Cossacks often were the perpetrators of horrific pogroms against Jews in Russian territory during the Czarist era. “

Muslim?

So interesting ...... “cost effective”

Who will be determining “cost effective”?

What does the “cost uneffective” one get to say about its designation?

What recourse does the “cost uneffective” one have?

Who does the “Cost uneffective” one feel is not “cost effective”?

I personally do not think congress is “cost effective”. Afterall, they are hired to write legislation to make laws - yet they cannot find time to “read” written legislation.

I would think that would call for being determined not “cost effective” or merely utterly worthless and determined to be fired.

Win "every" time? Seems HuffPost got it's a** kicked here.

The reaction by the Libs is hilarious. A**es kick kicked, they try to do the Richard Nixon thing: declare victory and get out (or in their case run like scalded dogs).

Yep. The key word, apparently, opening the door for an inbumbent public servant to file suit, is malicious, i.e. way beyond acceptable heated political discourse.

The “piece of work” is the article’s hateful author. What is wrong with these people? Glad HP made him pull it. (Probably killed them to do so...)

Put your information in a well-crafted letter and mail it to his office... Good advice. Just make sure to keep a copy for your own files for future reference.

That’s the Kos conviction that it’s ok to mock Down Syndrome children?

Yes.

Wow. And this post on the day that Parade Magazine names Arriana Huffington as one of the people who make America great! The irony of it just makes you want to pee yourself, huh?

(oh, and Arnold was named as well ... )

“The diary was never meant to offend anyone or pit Huffington Post against Free Republic, because of course Huffington Post would win every time.”

Right, because we all know that all liberals are super uber smart... in their own mind anyway.

Not kissing up to them. But descending to their level of vulgarity is counterproductive and offensive. One can skewer another very effectively (I would argue more effectively) without the profanity.

I know what you mean .. I work at a facility for seniors with Alzheimer’s. What is this so-called “socialized” medicine going to mean for them ..??

“O” has already stated that one way to reduce costs is to “LIMIT CARE FOR THE ELDERLY”.

We must stop this insanity - NOW!!! We’ve got to find some people with guts who we can get elected in 2010.

The condition is also called “Down’s Syndrome” because it was an English doctor with the last name of “Down” who classified the condition.

Since Down’s Syndrome shows as a possessive (’s) meaning that the syndrome is attributed to Dr. Down.

So .. could we please give the man credit ..??

The Daily Kos pulled a diary entry entitled, Just don't accuse me of "going full retard, that was posted two hours ago. The article drew 55 comments before it was pulled.

An excerpt lives on via Google News:

Just don't accuse me of "going full retard"

Daily Kos - ‎2 hours ago‎

by Kwaidan Show of hands-- how many here thought the best fireworks display over this Fourth of July weekend was Sarah Palin's resignation "speech?" Me too. ...

Oh wait wait wait, Huff Po is official press now that they have access to the Presidential briefings, right???

Soooo, the Huff Po is responsible for articles published and these morons STILL don’t realize that she can sue them for made up rumours.

I will love watching their heads explode when they realize they can’t bash Sarah like they have for months on end now.
