Ann Coulter Explains Palin's Exit
Women of the Web ^ | July 4, 2009 | Ann Coulter

Posted on 07/05/2009 10:17:12 PM PDT by SolidWood

I’m confused by all the confusion among the chattering classes about Palin. I thought her press conference explained it very clearly – though she couldn’t put it precisely this way without sounding vain, but it’s obvious.

Even though she’s just a state governor, she’s a HUGE national star who is both sought after and attacked as if she is already a president (a Bush, not an Obama). But she basically can’t participate because she’s tethered to the governor’s office up in Alaska. Consequently, she has to fight with one hand tied behind her back and she also can’t go around the country campaigning for candidates and principles she believes in – because she’s governor and would be accused of neglecting the state.

Meanwhile, the Lt. Gov. is a great guy, so she’s leaving the state in good hands and now she can go on to be an even bigger star.

It’s a weird Washington insider perspective to be perplexed by what she’s doing. Contrary to Mark Sanford’s e-mails to his mistress, no one was really impressed with him; 99.99999999999999999% of Americans didn’t know who he was. Who is more influential: Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge and Bill O’Reilly, or Tim Pawlenty, Bobby Jindal and Mark Sanford (before the fall)? As Palin said, God bless people who run for political office, but – and she didn’t say this part – she’s too big to be a lame-duck governor stuck dealing with fishing licenses in Anchorage right now.

She’ll be much bigger now and can play on the national stage without constantly setting off state ethics investigations by loons, parasites and liberals. None of this applied to McCain or Kerry – both of whom went back to the Senate – because their national campaigns diminished them. Palin’s national campaign made her a major star. As she said, she’s not retreating, she’s advancing in another direction.

I wouldn’t think I would have to remind anyone on FR that the “amiable dunce” was Ronald Reagan. With that in mind, maybe the sentence will be more to your liking :>))

This latest move is obviously a grab for money, and I mean hers. I will be very surprised if she attempts to raise funds for anybody except her family.

You're right, its so obvious she's only in this for herself. Where would we ever be without your wisdom?

I love Fred, but, seriously, he wimped out on us the last cycle.

Fred Thompson didn't "wimp out" on anyone. He reluctantly gave up his comfortable life because he was convinced by supporters that their would be a large conservative base for his candidacy. There wasn't. If anyone "wimped out" it was the self proclaimed "social" conservatives who were played like a fiddle by Huckabee and his supporters. Much of the conservative base that should have supported Fred, instead supported a faux conservative huckster.

Fred only does things his way and wasn't about to stick around when the reason for his candidacy didn't materialize. Come to think of it, that's one of the things that drives some people crazy about Sarah, she does things her own way even if it doesn't please the pundits. I like that about both of them.

I wish Sarah could be President. But

Sort of reveals the heart doesn't it?

Well, I was waiting for Fred to come out and when he did, he didn’t do much.

Sure wasn’t going for Huckabee, and Romney doesn’t light my fire and McCain only got my vote because of Sarah.

You and me both. Dumb move. Really, really dumb. I am just sick over it. I was happy when I thought she was just not going to seek re-election, but when I heard she is quitting the job before she was finished...hey, many, many people I have talked to, do not find that to be cool. It is irresponsible.

Also, that line Coulter wrote about the governor of Alaska ‘dealing with fishing licenses’..well, how insulting! Listen, if that is all Sarah did as governor, then why would Ann think she would ever be qualified to be President?! Ann is making herself sound ignorant-—as well as Sarah Palin.

Gosh! This upsets me!

Hey, Fred let us down. I was one who wrote him and asked him to run...but was left wanting, when I heard him speak. He waited too long to get into the race. During the debate when he had to give unscripted answers-—he was horrible. Naw, Fred wasn’t what we thought he was. Coulter called that one.

My heart is revealed in the statement that I care and respect Sarah too much for her to be treated so viciously by the MSM. Also the attacks on her family.

That is my heart. Sorry if you don’t like it.

...she was poorly educated...

What a tired canard. She became governor of the largest state in the union in spite of not having the connections the 'right' people get with their IV League diploma.

If daddy doesn't buy you the job, you get there on merit, no other way.

This is just a continuation of the "the opposition is dumb" nonsense the Liberals (who control much of post-secondary "education") have been pushing.

If you disagree with them, you must be dumb, right? /s

I couldn’t agree more.

As governor she had the bully pulpit. Now she has nothing.

She should learn from history, what happened to her hero, Teddy Roosevelt when he quit and then tried for a comeback. It don’t work!

Obviously, you are in a state of deep political depression. But remember this conversation in the future.

There is a bright, sunny sky opening up behind the clouds.

Besides, just think of what the alternatives are...pale, white, male politicians who go wobbly on the core conservative values we believe in.

Sarah sounds like America, says the things most Americans believe, and if that message doesn’t come through in 2012, it will in 2016.

Just remember this conversation, say, about a year from now.
