I really think the US is toast.

If the population of this country does not wake up pretty damn soon then we are not going to wake up smelling the roses, but the corpses.

Lib dims are in charge of everything in the gov't now and they are hell bent on wrecking the very things that make America unique. PC run amok. Radical academics/activists in key posts with no restraints, and fed budget size money to spend,, this is socialist nirvana.

I just spent the time to read the health care bill and after sifting thru the legal and politik speak, abortion and euthanasia are, of course, in there. And it will bankrupt us.

Our Military is heavily engaged overseas, and we've got Russian nuclear submarines off our coast. Winds of war in central America, and Mexico rotting from within.

I have a question: If the Russians, or Iranians, or NKs, or just anyone who could afford to buy a nuke were to adapt it for EMP det, then how many American citizens would be alive one year later?

You’ve been watching too much 24. We survived The Clintons. Will will survive 4 years of The Messiah. People will be ready for CHANGE then.

I don’t think it’s possible, politically, to put the fedgov back in its cage, short of state secession.

Completely separating, politically, is the only (human) way to preserve liberty at this point. With God, though, all things are possible. Perhaps He’ll bring Gideon to the fore again, and we’ll defeat the Midianites entrenched in the fedgov.

“My first vote was for Ronald Reagan in 1980.”

I know how you feel.
I missed voting for Goldwater, by less then a year, haha...voting age was 21 then.
Reagan gave a lot of spirit to the world, and especially
to central Europe, where I enjoyed some years of living,
long after the fall of the iron curtain.

It all comes home when you go to the Danube and see a monument to those that tried to swim to freedom in Austria.
The old building with the gun ramps is still there.

To Post No 11.

Excellent post. You presented a number of thoughtful (and logical) points. I would like to elaborate on just one, for now.

What is amazing to me is that the groups and individuals pushing self destructive policies and behavior on us and the country do not seem to have thought the process through beyond the attainment of their immediate goals.

In his book "The Liberal Mind - The Psychological Causes of Political Madness" Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr., M.D. says that those of the Left generally have a high degree of "self hate." They are truly bothered and look for the cause of this problem. Following the teachings of Marx, they are taught that their problems are caused by the "social injustice" of the free enterprise system and self-righteous Christians. They see people who don't support their world view as evil, and deserving of a hideous end because they are so tortured.

So, you are correct, they have no real end plan because they think that everything will be alright if they can just get rid of the evil system that holds them back. But, of course, destroying the culture that we love will not end their angst. They are forever doomed to project their problems onto whatever is convenient.

We are so obviously living the "fictional novel" Atlas Shrugged.

Atlas Shrugged... yes... and...

Perhaps 1984. Or Animal Farm.

Or even The Turner Diaries.

” My first vote was for Ronald Reagan in 1980. I remember very well the sense of hope, of purpose, of giddiness at the unlimited potential of this great country. At the time, nothing seemed impossible, and we thought the greatness of America would simply go on forever.”

Me , too , and I was 28 at the time . Worked for the Suffolk County , NY Republicans as a volunteer on the phones . What a thrill it was to help get Ronald Reagan elected . Perhaps the past , great POTUS we shall ever know .

Conservatism becomes overwhelmingly attractive when Democrats simply act like Democrats. After 4 to 8 years of swimming in their muck and mire, hopefully voters will crawl over broken glass to vote in Conservatives once again.

Yes, and that can only be due to a very limited number of reasons.

Agree. I might add anecdotally that I’ve noticed that the most unattractive are drawn to liberalism. Why is that? I’m not even talking necessarily about PHYSICAL appearance. Liberals are perpetually unhappy and bitter. Even when they DO try to act happy, their smiles do not reach their eyes like genuine smiles do (See Pelosi for an example.) Perhaps their childhood angst and hatred for those who bullied or outshone them can only be relieved by striking back at those who ARE successful, talented, normal, or attractive.

Those who don’t think they have, or know they don’t have,

the ability to compete in a free market based on their own merits,

they will naturally look for a way to use FORCE to make their lot better.

When you’re perpetually below average, a forced average looks better for you.

But

The Land of Our Founding Fathers is Too Big to Fail!!

Right?

Not if scoundrels and scalawags masquerading as citizens of this country harbor intent to shatter it’s very foundations.

Incrementalism works. Socialism sucks the very lifeblood out of its host.

That tree of Liberty is looking mighty parched.

I agree.

People are going to have to experience tyranny in order to appreciate freedom. Those who seem to believe that the economy and their own lifestyle will not change under socialism will find out the hard way how wrong they are.

I am somewhat optimistic, though. It may be enough for Americans to stand on the edge of the abyss, rather than plunging into the chasm. My main concern is how we are to obstruct the ACORN attempts at subverting the next election. But, that may not really matter, as they seem to mostly effect the urban areas and the already lost Blue states. IMO, we lost the elections in 2006/2008 in the red areas as conservatives reluctantly voted in smaller numbers, didn’t work for the GOP and many folks who normally vote Republican decided to give zerO a chance, for whatever reason. We will also obviously pick up more of the Independents and moderate Democrats in 2010. Then, the Progressives are going to commit to all-out public war, which should be enough to turn another percentage of their supporters to our side, since they will attack their own moderates in a vicious purge.

In the interim, it is going to get rough for a lot of folks, especially those of us just entering the final third of our lives. Right now, my main faith is in the 10th Amendment movements and the chance we have for fiscal conservatives to pick up governorships, other state positions and state legislative seats. If that fails, I see huge underground economies and a de facto, if not actual, civil war.

If Christianity and Judaism survived centuries of persecution and genocide, so will capitalism and freedom.

Liberals are perpetually unhappy and bitter.

Yup. They can't be happy because their problem is deeply psychological; it's personal to them.

Rossiter points to poor relationships with their fathers. Or, in Obama's and Clinton's case, no relationship. They see the Federal Government as a surrogate father figure, something that will make them feel safe and secure which is exactly the opposite of what they had in their formative years.

As an aside, I was in Paris several years back and during a brief conversation asking for directions, I mentioned that I was an American. The local person responded, "Oh, I knew that because you are smiling." "Haven't you noticed, Europeans don't smile?"

I later learned that they didn't smile because socialism sucks the very life out of a person.

Well, I’m not voting for a “compassionate conservative,” either! :-D

I think I recognize this book! Either that one, or one similar to it. My brother, who now is in his late 40s, was in Boy Scouts many years ago. (of course)One of his old handbooks is still around the house, and it may be this one. I’ll have to see if I can find it!

We need to build the technology to get every home in America to run off their own energy, batteries, sunlight, cow farts, I don’t care. The sooner we get rid of our archaic electrical grid, the safer we become as individuals. (And whoever does it first will make bank, I’m sure. so the money incentive is there.)
