Comet Chemical Is Not the Seed of Life

The amino acid glycine is one of twenty chemical building blocks of the proteins that provide most of the structures and functions in living cells. Scientists recently detected microscopic traces of glycine in materials retrieved from the tail of a comet. Some interpret this as evidence that life can exist elsewhere in the universe, and maybe even that life on earth began with chemicals from space. But for a host of reasons, this discovery fails to live up to its billing as being a key to the evolution of life from just chemicals...

A dose of biochemical reality Exactly. Any evo who actually places stock in this discovery as "proof", or even "evidence," for abiogenesis is a dolt.

You are Busy today!
Those origins of life theories are very imaginative unlike those Garden of Eden ‘theories’ you never talk about. ‘Poof, Here I am , I am Adam! Now prove I didnt appear from nothing when you werent looking. AHHHAH, I won the debate! ‘
What about that missing rib used to create Eve? Did you find that ‘missing link’ yet ????
LOL

Great work TQC! I just wish your blog didn’t have “blogspot” in the address, that way I could post it to News/Activism :o(

There are so many out there now that just willingly lie.

I always hate these idiots who insist that life was brought to earth from outer space. They’re usually too stupid to answer the question: “well, what started life on Mars (or whatever place they assume life migrated from)?”

Well, it’s not really my blog, it was started by another guy who takes issue with Charles Johnson (LGF) and his idiotic advocacy of evolution. I just post there occasionally whenever I write something evo or atheism related.

Yes, it’s called an X chromosome. It’s right there in the user’s manual.

I don’t think the original article said that life sprang from cometary materials - only that cursorial organics were present. Conjecture takes over from there. Still, it is an interesting find. It does indicate that somewhere in either time or space exists a precursor to life. Beggars the question whether the chemical were sourced from life on either our world or another or were formed by non-biological processes yet described.

I just wish your blog didnt have blogspot in the address, that way I could post it to News/Activism :o(Why does having "blogspot" in the address prevent you from posting it to News/Activism? If it's a blog, it's a blog, the address doesn't change what it is.

Biggest reason that none of these amino acids found could ever spontaneously lead to life is that they are found in a racemic mixture.

Try posting the blog in News/Activism and see what happens.

To generate living material from non-living components implies the following:
Complex organic molecules must be able to form from simpler chemicals in non-controlled conditions, given ordinary reactions and some form of energy input.
The term "organic" is used above in the chemical definition sense, meaning hydrocarbons and such, not meaning "produced from life". In other words, the group of chemicals belonging to the organic family.
If this is true, then we should be able to find organic chemicals in all kinds of environments. In fact, every where we look, we find amino acids and other organic compounds forming ON THEIR OWN, often in environments quite hostile to life (such as comets and interstellar nebula).
You can observe molecules with assymetric water bonding naturally form semi-spherical membranes ON THEIR OWN.
Creationists often yell rather loudly that you cannot develop more complex structures from simpler ones without some intervention, yet you can observe that in nature on the chemical level routinely.
SCIENCE asks a question, and then goes LOOKING. 500 years ago, comets were harbingers of bad luck, omens to be heeded by the ignorant and superstious. Today, we are visiting and SAMPLING these celestial bodies.
I'll put my money on the scientists that follow reason, observations and testing.

AHHH, the rib reference was really the X chromosome. That is great. I completely missed that one.
Heck, if we can make that leap in interpretation we should be able to easily intepret the entire Genesis to be consistent with.... that old DARWIN! LOL
