FoxNews - T.R. Ried just blew the American Health Care System Away

Posted on 09/17/2009 4:52:23 AM PDT by Scythian

Boy did he destroy the myth's of the American health care system and the cries that all other countries have socialized medicine. What a sham, governments of other nations are covering everybody via private health care, in fact, most do, the myth of socialized medicine is largely that, a myth. It was a very in depth interview.

It was a real eye opener, what you think about Germany, France and so on and other western nations and their health care might actually suprise you. I hope others were able to see that interview.

I smell a rat. He provided a glowing endorsement of government regulation and seemed to play class warfare politics.

-- the myth of socialized medicine is largely that, a myth. --

Literally EVERY subject of public policy covered by the politicians and press is substantively mis-represented to the public.

In the wake of 9/11/01, the Feds said that the only way to get professional-grade security is to federalize, and voila, TSA. Stupid decision, and obviously so at the time it was made. So too with health care - federalizing any part of it is stupid.

What I saw of the interview appeared to be an utter joke. They guy RAVED about medical care in every other country BUT the US. When Gretchen asked him why so many others come to the US for care then, he responded, ‘well, ARAB SHEIKS come here but others can’t afford it’!

The guy struck me as a loser libtard.

Has he lived in Europe??? I didn't think so. I saw the interview and was very suspicious of his "findings."

I saw that and am suspicious. Obviously he wants to sell his book and the timing could not be better to sell it, but I keep thinking of Michael Moore.

In the big picture, I hope his book brings some sanity to the health care debate, but my guess is that it will only strengthen public support for obama's and the demonrats' momentum to pass something.

There seems to be conflicting perceptions of this interview on this thread.

...and by the way, what kind of headline is yours that says this idiot ‘blew away’ the American healthcare system???? Good grief. We’ve got THEE BEST healthcare in the world and that guy had to reluctantly admit that RIGHT BEFORE saying only Arab Sheiks come here for it.

I saw the interview, in which he cited quite a few statistics that I'd need to independently verify before I accepted them.

HIs main claim was that "government health care" in other countries was most often comprised of private insurance, private hospitals, and private doctors. His most telling point was that insurance countries here charge 20% overhead costs, whereas in France (for instance) the overhead is 4%.

His other claim was that only in the United States is the healthcare different for the wealthy than the poor. Apparently, in France the President receives the same health care as anyone else - otherwise it would be "immoral".

I'm quite skeptical of his claims, myself. MRI machines and all the other trappings of high-tech medicine cost a lot, everywhere. So does a top-notch medical education.
