Senators diverted $2.6 billion in funds in a defense spending bill to pet projects largely at the expense of accounts that pay for fuel, ammunition and training for U.S. troops, including those fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to an analysis.

A little history lesson:

What happened when Democrats in Congress cut off funding for the Vietnam War?

This is outrageous. I sent this info to my friends at the Air Force base, along with the phone numbers of the culprits and told them to give ‘em hell. Like I told them, if this doesn’t piss off the American public, all is lost.

from the article:

While earmarks are hardly new in Washington, “in 30 years on Capitol Hill, I never saw Congress mangle the defense budget as badly as this year,” said Winslow Wheeler, a former Senate staffer who worked on defense funding and oversight for both Republicans and Democrats.

GK Chesterton was a genius with great wit, too bad he is not read more or taught in schools.

Coburn also reads all of his mail, and responds personally. It takes longer to get a respond, naturally.

I just received a personal reply to a message I sent him about three months ago. I could tell he really had read it and responded to my points. Heck, he even wrote that my points were excellent, so I’m a little puffed up today. Yay, me!

I had to calm down, so I took a break. First, and foremost, I'm glad you're home safe. I hope you can get back in the “groove” find a good job and help us fight the good fight back here at home. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your service (it's become trite, I know, but I mean it with all I've got).

Last, I tried to tell my very patriotic son (like Sam's Mom) that the weasels in D.C. could do this to them (I lived through the last time in Viet Nam). I tried to tell him that he was risking it all (especially as he's the only child I could have) for a bunch of craven politicians and Americans who think he's stupid and has no other options in life and wouldn't “get it” if he could show them what he gave up to serve his country. I had such guilt when I tried to talk him out of it. I felt like a traitor to point out that our nation has become a bunch of slimeballs who think only of how much they can accumulate and spend on themselves.

I felt like such a jerk to tell him that his country doesn't deserve him, but it seems like Introduction to Law 101 takes center stage — “Truth is a defense.”

In answer to Sam's Mom, our win may only mean that our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, wives and husbands, grandsons and granddaughters make it to Heaven before we do or they get ring side seats to Armageddon. In any case, I'm becoming less and less enthused as time passes and these jackasses inside the beltway continue to plumb new depths in lack of character, decency and depravity.

Get Rid of ALL of congress and start over.

Congress needs Term Limits ASAP. A congressional politican should not be able to serve longer than 12 years ... Career politicians are idiots.

At this point, random indivdiuals from the phonebook would make better memebers of our congress than the current ...

Senatorial Bastids.

Treasonous Bastids.

Why isn't the press screaming? The press hates the military.

Maybe time to bring everyone home, if the country has lost the will to support our soldiers at risk.

The Senators who did this need to be run out on rails.

The usual suspects I see, except I don’t recognize the Vitter guy, who is pubbie.

You know, the Louisiana senator embroiled in sex scandals, most recently reported to have been a client of the D.C. Madam a couple years ago.
