Check this out. It’s a surprisingly refreshing and non-partisan editorial from USA Today of all newspapers. It’s also a pretty vicious attack on Obama and the Democrat Congress, as well as the segment of the GOP that was pushing spending and expansion of the Federal government. This, of course, preceded an op-ed in today’s Washington Post that attacked Obama, Tim Kaine, and the DNC.

The tide is turning.

Only a economic disaster Schiff style will wake up the public from their obsession with Santa Claus. I am convinced that the problem is not only Washington DC but it is voters too, both parties. Term limits would help with Washington elected congress too,

In my opinion, term limits is an artificial and incorrect solution to the problem.

Ultimately, the blame lies with those who do not vote and those too stupid or too lazy to be informed that do vote.

Term limits lack a certain small 'l' libertarian approach to government.

I really don't know what the answer is besides the hard and dirty work of those who are informed spending their time waking others up.

I do agree with you on the economic disaster comment.

Trying to take the consequences out of life is part of why we find ourselves in the mess we are in.

I agree with you on term limits. That is not the solution. The blame lies directly on the voters, period! We are the ones that put these thieving criminals in office. We are the ones that didn’t care while times were good (artificially) and didnt’ care enough to pay attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. Now that we have that economic disaster we are getting vocal it seems and starting to pay attention to the wolves we elected to watch the chicken coop. The solution is simple: The states need to band together and tell the Feds to get F’d. Plain and simple. Tax money should flow to state coffers first to take care of community needs, and then and only then, the Feds can come beg for our hard earned cash. We need to ensure we get active and aware to only elect those that thoroughly understand the US Constitution and the powers granted to the Federal government. Only then will the money be release to the Feds for Constitutionally legal endeavors i.e., National Defense.

” I am convinced that the problem is not only Washington DC but it is voters too, both parties.”

Considering that voters have been fed the idea that tax cuts pay for themselves it’s little surprise to find them electing irresponsible politicians.

Like I said, Obama is ticking everyone off. He isn’t even astute enough to limit his idiocy to Conservatives. He now does things sure to tick off the left too.

You have to ask yourself, who does boy wonder expect to support him and his party next time around?

This flu vaccine may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Wouldn’t it be amazing to watch the left try to impeach his ass. LOL

At some point you almost wonder if they might not do it.

Yes, it's almost -- but not quite as idiotic -- as the idea that tax increases will lead to a balanced budget. In the 20th Century, every time Congress raised taxes by $1.00, they raised spending by $1.41. In addition to that, this is a direct transfer of wealth from the most productive (private) parts of the economy to the least productive (government) parts, so more than $1.00 of wealth is actually lost for each dollar raised.

What the electorate needs to be told is that spending needs to be cut -- and very drastically.

Revenues generally do increase after corporate tax cuts don’t they?

Corporation revenues will increase if you cut their taxes. But Treasury revenues will fall. Each dollar of tax cuts will reduce the Treasury’s take by some 30 cents.

Conventional wisdom these days is just the opposite.

I’ve not heard anyone claim that reducing taxes was a poor way to increase jobs and federal revenues.

I appreciate the response.

Reducing both taxes and regulation would do a lot to spur investment here. But in order to keep from further wrecking the dollar there must be spending cuts to prevent both deficits and an increase in the national debt. Bush’s folly was to implement tax cuts without any spending cuts. The dollar weakened greatly on his watch, and Obama is throwing gas on that fire.

I agree with you that spending MUST be addressed. What we’ll see is military infrastructure shortchanged, while Obama increases ten fold that amount in extra spending.

Our federal and state governments are simply out of control.

There are no checks and balances in effect today. Even the election processes are being corrupted, so that the internationalist players can be elected more easily.

In the short term, we’re in a world of hurt.

I’ve never been an advocate of deficit spending, or even massive trade deficits.

...spending MUST be addressed.

I'd wish out-of-control spending were to be addressed, but since Democrat & Republican parties are two sides of the same coin, unfortunately, it WILL NEVER be addressed.

Term limits are one of the only things that will fix it. The incentive system is completely different when you know you can’t make a career out of politics - you have to get in there, serve your country, and go home.

I say no more than 2 terms in the house (8 years) and 1 term in the senate (6 years).

Misleading:
“Democrats have done an extraordinary job of throwing away a reputation for fiscal responsibility earned with the budget surpluses of the Clinton era.”

It was the Clinton era, but the fiscal responsibility was due to a Republcian Congress.

Outright lie:
“After all, most of the $1.4 trillion shortfall for fiscal 2009 was inherited from the Bush administration...”

More than half of the deficit spending came from the Porkulus bill alone. It should be noted that all of the deficit spending came from Democrat controlled Congresses. Bush was definitely culpable in the bank bailouts, but deficits were decreasing prior to the Dems taking control of Congress in 2006.

Forgive me rabscuttle. I should have made it clear that the misleading statement and outright lie were not from you, but from the article. Despite my criticisms I found the article pretty balanced, especially considering the source. Thanks for posting it.
