Palin, Thompson show leadership while Romney and Huckabee exude cowardice
The Examiner ^ | 11/1/2008 | Kevin Hall

Sarah Palin and Fred Thompson had the guts to do what Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and the entire Republican Party would not do. One month ago, Thompson became the first prominent national Republican to endorse Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in the New York District 23 Congressional race. Palin made an even bigger impact by endorsing Hoffman a week and a half ago. In doing so, Palin lived up to her penchant for going against the mainstream and taking on powerbrokers inside her own party.

Huckabee made it clear that he agreed with Hoffman and publicly refused to endorse the RINO candidate. But he’d already been contracted through his speakers’ agency to do a paid gig hosting a local Conservative Party awards dinner. If he’d endorsed their candidate after that, Hoffman’s opponents would have portrayed Hoffman as buying his endorsement, not only smearing Huckabee but causing an unnecessary distraction for the Hoffman campaign. This had happened once before, so he knew it would happen again. He preferred that the partisan and the uninformed attack him rather than Hoffman. But don’t bother doing any research before attacking people’s motives and character.

I am not convinced that McCain picked her of his own free will. I don't think he is that clever.

McCain only picked Palin because he couldn't get enough conservative votes to pull himself above 30% in the polls, and most of those were votes against Obama.

Sarah Palin brought in the votes, but McCain dragged the ticket back down into losing territory.

God works in mysterious ways. I think McCain's purpose was to be the vehicle to introduce Sarah on the national stage.

This just goes to show, we're expecting to find perfect people that are perfect all the time. These are unrealistic expectations.

Besides even the purists here on FR do not agree on what constitutes perfection.

Romney is a coward.
No child or woman is immune from Team Romney.

Team Romney is continuing backstabbing Gov. Palin even NOW!!!!

“And The Most Irresponsible Journalist Award Goes to The Politico’s Jonathan Martin!
So tell me, how do you write a “news” story about an organization paying for a speaker when you don’t even know if the organization is paying for the speaker?
Ask “journalist” Jonathan Martin. He knows all about it.
You see, Jonny wrote a piss poor story the other day about how the Iowa Family Policy Center will be paying a large speaker fee if Sarah Palin comes to Iowa to keynote the IFPC’s fall funderaiser.
The only problem is that Jonny has no sources confirming that any exorbitant fee is being charged or paid.
Jonny also got some inside info from David Kochel, who was a top aide to former (and future) presidential candidate, Mitt Romney.
Hey Dave, didn’t I just read a story about how Mitt Romney tried to buy off the Iowa Christian Alliance?
I heard you helped facilitate that little scheme. And somehow you are shocked at the thought of a well-known political figure (who very likely isn’t running for president) getting paid a speaker’s fee for (gasp) a public speaking appearance? ..
and then we’ve got Tim Albrecht quoted. He was the Iowa spokesman for Romney’s 2008 caucus campaign.”
And it always seemed like, whenever the Romney people had rumors they wanted to start about other candidates,
Jonny was their go-to guy to get those rumors in writing in front of a national audience.

SSDD

The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++8 to 10 pts. in some polls, days prior to the election.
So rather than helping the GOP, poor loser “I am Myth” Romney and
TeamROMNEY decided …… to attack Gov. Palin (and her defenseless children) to throw Election2008.

"Frum was indeed a critic of Palin, calling her nomination a "huge mistake" during an October 13 (2008, weeks before the election) Early Show appearance."

David Frum: "Two of our most plausible candidates for president in 2012 are leading Mormons: Mitt Romney and Utah governor Jon Huntsman."

David Frum: "I have a lot of regard for Mitt Romney as a man and politician… I will support him without qualm."

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers…
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide…
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
"Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."

The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was
the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
… aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.

Erick Erickson, who organized Operation Leper, said:
"These staffers are now out trying to finish her off ….hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

Who benefits most from Sanford meltdown? Californian (that's right) Mitt Romney

"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"

"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

I gotta say I love listening to Fred Thompson’s radio show.

Does Fred have a radio show now? Thompson would be a great spokesperson for the Rep. Party, especially in the south, midwest, flyover country. His down-to-earth analysis on politics is classic. I'd like to see the Rep. party use him more in commercials and on political round tables/debates. He has a gift as a conservative communicator.

I think Pawlenty is angling for Palin’s VP pick. Personally, I think if Palin is the nominee, she will go with a VP that is out of the box, a non-career politician, or a retired military man.

Unrealistic expectations? You don't think McCain/Feingold was a big deal? Chairing McCain's campaign points out the allegiance. I'm just pointing out he's another Sen. Grahamnesty. McLame is trying to install another one here, in Colorado, too.

Me? I think CFR was a huge deal. It was such a huge deal to me, I wouldn't even consider McCain for the Iowa caucus and I gave my friend, who was part of his campaign, heck for helping McCain.

BUT once a whole bunch of other US Republicans decided they wanted him as our nominee, it was an easy decision to vote McCain rather than the Commie/Muzzie-lovin disaster we have in the WH right now.

“I’d much rather listen to Fred than Rush, Sean or any of the other talkers.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

In my opinion Fred Thompson has a much better delivery, he not only has the super masculine voice the others lack but he has a much smoother way of delivering a message. Rush Limbaugh has a tendency to sputter, stutter and get in his own way so much I sometimes have a hard time following him plus sometimes he starts quoting some goofy liberal in a longwinded way so that if you just cut into the program you might think Rush has become the newest convert to socialism. I think this may be why he is misquoted so much.

I never though Huckabee was phony.

The other guys you mentioned are all straight-up, but you can add Huckabee to the list of phonies.

He made a stemwinder of a mi casa, su casa speech to the LULAC barbarians in 2003 when he was governor of Arkansas -- and Slick Willie was right up there on the dais with him, when he gave the speech. He is another corrupt Stevens Machine politician, a typical Arkansas hack pol, GOP variety. I consider him the Stevens family's double-down bet on making sure they have the future cornered in their state.

He sure does. I believe he has Bill O’Rielly’s slot with Westwood One. I listen to the podcasts ever day, since nobody local plays Fred’s show. Go here:

www.thefredthompsonshow.com

All his archives are there. He hosts it with his wife, jeri, and they’re a hoot together. I hope you enjoy it.
