Seeking clarity from Hutchison (TX)
Dallas Morning News ^ | 10/31/2009

Posted on 11/01/2009 8:47:18 AM PST by markomalley

Kay Bailey Hutchison's campaign for governor has taken shape around two general themes: Rick Perry is bad for Texas, and Barack Obama is bad for the nation.

Oh, and she would defend property rights as ferociously as the Texians defended the Alamo.

Aside from elaboration on these positions, the public has few specifics from Texas' senior senator on how she would govern if she turns Perry out of the governor's office. This comes despite Hutchison's declaration of specific policy areas she would concentrate on.

In kicking off her campaign in August, she stated, "As governor, I will focus on five areas: fiscal policy, education, transportation, health care and government reform."

It's now November, and we await details. How would she change the way schoolchildren are educated, for example? Conscientious voters surely want to hear.

The Hutchison campaign has said for weeks that the senator plans a "rollout" of policy positions, but she doesn't appear ready to begin. The primary election is in four months. What's the holdup?

Hutchison aims to knock off a known quantity in the Republican primary. Agree or disagree with Perry, his nearly nine years in the governor's office – a Texas record – gives voters lots to judge him against.

Hutchison does not hesitate to point to her own record in office to promote her candidacy. But since she has spent the last 16 years representing Texas in the Senate, her record there is not the right measure. It's how she would govern in Austin that matters, and voters deserve a chance to vet her positions.

I prefer Perry over Hutchinson... so I guess we will cancel each other out :^). She reminds me of the worst side of the Republicans (going moderate or liberal to get elected). Will admit though that the choices are not the best.

Another Texan...

I’m with you on this one, no way would I ever vote for this Rino. So we’ll get a least one net vote.

A third Texan...

Whoever is the next governor of Texas will first and foremost be the stalwart defender of Texas...

All of that against an ever increasing intrusive and infringing Federal government...

Period...

I do not see KBH doing anything but looking right at D.C. for what she will be doing for Texas, in a totally reactive mode...

That is unacceptable to me...

Perry has been doing and saying things that have caused a lot of us to question his continued ability to “just get by”...

That is unacceptable to me as well...

The other candidates making a run on this job in my opinion are not a factor...

I kinda wish a guy I know some of us believe would put all of these folks to shame had made a run on this job this time...

All in all I am not impressed with any of them...

As a TEXAN, all I care about is that control of our highways not be SOLD OUT to the highest bidder (or whatever bidder Perry selects).

Kay WILL NOT do that, so she gets my vote and my money. It’s much cheaper for me to give her a few hundred now than have to pay thousands every year to companies like Cintra (the Spanish firm that nearly took over control of the I-35 corridor, and may still get control of the US-59 corridor). If Perry is gone, Cintra, MacQuire (Austrailian firm), and others will be gone, and that’s good enough for me (until Dan Patrick gets in office and finally cleans up the state).

Let us know when Medina polls out of the single digits.

Maybe she should try holding elected office first before running for the top job in the state.

Even if every resident of Wharton County and every Paulbot in Texas voted for her, she still has no chance. She doesn’t even rate as a spoiler candidate.

Chances are Larry Kilgore will get a lot more votes than she will in the primary and neither one will come close to being the winner.

.....and how do you explain Hoffman in New York & Scozzafva withdrawing...?

Hoffman has brought the RNC to it's knees....with no previous office.

You sound like Newt and Spector....

She’s pro”choice,” and has campaigned against President Bush’s restrictions on embryonic stem cell destruction for federal tax dollars. She’s actively promoted widening of embryonic stem cell research all over Texas, claiming that destruction of intentionally created human embryos would be good for business.

Where are her speeches in favor of the right to life, a pro-life or profamily law? She can introduce S. 2585 through S. 2602 to temporarily suspend the tariff on certain men’s, boy’s, women’s and girl’s knit-to-shape cashmere sweaters, microphones and earphones (October 30,2009), so where’s the support to suspend elective intentional abortion?

I’ve been trying to remain silent on this race, but her campaign increases their low attacks on our sitting Republican Governor, attacking the man the way that the Left attacks Republicans.

If she’s so conservative, so great for Texas, show us how and why, don’t attack the current Governor.

I don’t prefer her over Perry, and I don’t think our republican base needs the kind of mud throwing that she’s already participating in, along with her socialist buddiest in Washington DC...

Perry has been HERE and like him or not, Texas is in better shape than most any state in the nation. And I applaud him for that, even though we’ve had to slap him up side the head a couple of times.

Kay Bailey Hutchison is a SOCIALIST! She sneakily raises her hands every time with the socialists if it’s not a highly publicized issue!

We don’t need or want this woman in the Texas Mansion, and we don’t need her mud slinging here! She’s worse than the Obama team.

Debra Medina is the only true conservative in the race and the only one who actually intends to take on the federal government... and as far as I’m concerned the fact that she hasn’t spent most her adult life in elected office is a GOOD thing.

I’ll take a closer look at her. I’ve also interviewed Larry Kilgore whom I really like also.

But right now, I don’t think we can afford to split the party. We’ve got to win this one, and cannot give the socialists an inch to land on.

Kay Bailey’s full intention was to split the vote, and erupt Texas into chaos. And I suspect she’s getting some socialist money to do it.

And we’re going to need a strong states rights or secessionist at the helm to lead in case the going gets really rough, which I foresee happening quite easily.

Is Medina strong enough to do that?

She is going to pull a ‘DEDE’ and pull out of the campaign. I think she already knows that she is in the extreme dislike column for most Texans.

Wow, I don't think so, but that would be so hugely good .... it would give Medina a chance to put Perry in a runoff and focus attention on just the two of them ..... and put ol' Rick squarely in the KZ for all of us conservatives .....

The top job in Texas is lieutenant governor.

Okay, so are you trying to help out Larry Kilgore or some other candidate who is more conservative than ol' RiNO Rick?

Or are you already compromised on Rick Perry for another four years? He doesn't work for you, you know. Or me. He works for Trammell Crow, Cintra-Zachary, and the rest of those guys.

And what will you tell us after Kay helps whoop through a state income tax?

“And what will you tell us after Kay helps whoop through a state income tax?”

I guess that I would tell that the people of Texas now DEMAND the income tax, as THE PEOPLE have to vote in a Constitutional Amendment to have one.

In other words, nice try, but will not happen - even under a Democrat.

How could a state like Texas get to the point where we seemingly have no choice for governor other than two RINOs who will be pushing for amnesty for the criminal invaders from the south the second the election is over?
