Audio: “I don’t want to have to kill this man, but I’ll kill him graveyard dead”

You've got to listen to this audio. It's terrible what this woman went through - she clearly has a hard time doing what had to be done - but it's also a sign of why it's a good thing the second amendment allows Americans to defend themselves and their property. The burglar was probably stoned and "crazy." He might have done terrible things to the woman if she wouldn't have stopped him.

This was the most obvious case of "self defense" if ever there was one.

I’d call it a palate cleanser except that it’s too riveting and simply … too sad for that. Not only is this poor woman put through the wringer, it sounds like the guy breaking in was out of his gourd: They didn’t know each other, yet he was screaming threats and resorted to throwing patio furniture through the back door to get in. Reportedly, when the cops found his sister to let her know, she was so high she was nearly unconscious, so that’s the theory for his behavior at the moment. No word yet on what he was on.

I hope the NYPD would have been as supportive as the dispatcher is at the end here, but New York ain’t Oklahoma, needless to say. Exit quotation from the sheriff: “This was nothing more than a home invasion and Mrs. Jackson was defending herself.”

Listen to the audio at Hot Air.

I listened to this yesterday. It took 20 minutes for cops to arrive. Thank goodness this woman was armed.

I hope this woman realizes that she didn’t kill him, he killed himself. I would have called 911 to report a dead man in my home

Incredible. And the fact she remained so calm is amazing.

Alone out in the middle of nowhere. She had no choice.

I’ve walked my fiance through our break in scenario.

We both head to the same corner of the same room, facing out, she’s get’s the phone, I get the .357. (phone is located next to corner)

If she’s home by herself, gun then phone.

As I explained to her, searching for the bad guy from room to room may look good on tv, however, I much prefer letting the bad guy make the mistake of finding me.

No one should have regrets for defending themselves.

I often travel to Europe and have had the opportunity to spend 6 months in Amsterdam as part of my work. I often get into conversations with the locals who do not understand the “gun culture” here in the US.

One of the things I have to explain is that there is a different time/distance/expectation here in the US than in Europe. At one point, I pulled out a map of US/Colorado, showed them where Denver was and traced the route eastward following I-70 till I got to Kansas City. I then told the small crowd that had gathered that that trip, taken by car and following the speed limits would have taken 8 hours minimum and more likely 10 hrs if you stopped for lunch or dinner. Their perception of a 10 hour drive at highway speeds 120 km/hr was that they would cross several countries.

I then told them that it often takes 15 to 20 min for the police to show up at your door. To which many simply could not believe me. The few that did believe me then understood that you could not simply wait till the cops arrived.

Michael, do you experience similar time/distance/expectation differences with your friends back in the Netherlands?

MUNCHKIN NO. 1
We thank you very sweetly
For doing it so neatly.

MUNCHKIN NO. 2
You’ve killed him so completely
That we thank you very sweetly.

She was obviously a good shot....

That's the nice thing about shotguns, you don't have to be a good shot. Shotguns are designed to easily hit small, flying objects, 30 or more yards away. A large object, coming straight at you, from 10 or 20 feet away, is almost impossible to miss.

Even a small shotgun, loaded with birdshot, can easily be fatal from that range.

The Lady should be given a medal ... for preventing future mayhem and perhaps horrific death to others this freak would victimize in his drug-induced future.

#5 or larger pellets for home defense loads, nothing smaller. Better to clean-up the mess than be carried by six.

Amazed she remained so calm?

What effect to you think was had by her knowledge that she could neutralize the threat with the twitch of a finger?

No gun- no calm.
