McDonald's Corp. will start offering breakfast for a buck with the launch of a national dollar menu in January.

The breakfast dollar menu will be backed with advertising across the U.S., and will feature five items: two sausage sandwiches, a sausage burrito, a 12-ounce coffee and a hash brown. The menu may feature some variations based on markets.

it’s good, Folger’s tasting coffee.

LOL!

My favorite breakfast item is an Egg McMuffin, but on a biscuit instead of an English muffin. It is much better, plus by putting in a special order you are guaranteed a fresh item.

I visited Hong Kong many years ago; my favorite memory was that you could get Egg McMuffins 24-hours a day.

the food stamp bureaucracy assumes that a person needs 5 bucks/day.

MREs run ~$5/each. That and a big sack of rice ($0.05/serving) will do daily. (MREs come 12/case; 200 servings of rice is $10.)

The Mickey D's in KC have had a number of dollar items for quite some time, and they have had occasional dollar breakfast item specials. For instance right now they have the breakfast burritos on sale for a dollar: They're normally $1.80 I believe, and they're pretty good.

IF you put Sour Cream on the Hsh Browns they become McLatkes

Actually... If you like "Latkes," try the breakfast potato cakes at Steak & Shake. I kid you not... If they had just a bit of chopped onion in them, they'd be PERFECT latkes! As they are, they're pretty darned close!

Unfortunately, all the local McDonalds are owned by the same outfit, and ALL of them are filthy.

If you contact McDonalds corporate offices and ask to talk someone regarding filthy franchise stores, they'll come down on the owners like a ton of bricks. McDonalds is serious about its image, quality and its franchises, and if they learn that the stores are being mismanaged, they'll make good on threats to pull the franchise. I've seen it happen.

Right you are! Not only feed them but provide lots of entry level jobs for kids and make a respectable profit in the process.

And it gives people who are serious the chance to move up... I seem to recall reading somewhere that the current CEO actually started working at McDonalds as a teenager, making minimum wage. Of course, I doubt that he "worked his way up" without moving on to other jobs, and of course college, but I know that there are a lot of people who learn management skills from working in fast food. For instance, I had the offer to go to "Cod College" to get management training when I was just out of high school as a worker at a Long John Silvers.

THIS is why the left really HATES McDonald’s... They do what the statist utopia of the left could NEVER do - feed BILLIONS on the cheap.

Krystal can feed you cheaper and has one main thing Mickey D's has lacked for almost two decades which is food with taste. Krystal Breakfast beat Mickey's on any item in taste and I think cost. They can also manage to keep their drive thru running reasonably by cooking several things at the same time and having it ready. That's something else Mickey never caught on to either. Order something without cheese at the Clown House and it completely messes them up. Krystal fries also are decent unlike the McCrayon fries of MickeyD's they went switched over to in order to appease followers of Ollie and the Mussies I think. Krystal is also where Dave Thomas got the idea for his square burger. There was a Krystal across from an upscale resturant he worked at as a teen.

,i>When I moved from Maine to the South, the biggest thing that took getting used to, was the fact that people just come up to you and start talking. Made me want to check my wallet, or wonder what their agenda was, until I got used to it and realized that it was just the locals being polite.

The biggest thing this southern boy noticed working in Maine and other parts north was the instant I opened my mouth and they noticed a southern drawl they immediately start to treat me like I'm stupid. It's a bad habit a lot of Yankees have towards southern folks. I used it to my advantage many, many times....

WRONG. Unlike its competitors, McDonalds uses only 100% USDA lean beef

I married a Southern Belle - that makes me the worst kind of Yankee, I suppose. I came to the south, never left, and married the best looking woman. :-)

Anyhoo, my family back home *loves* to listen to her talk. They love her accent, even if I don't hear it anymore.

There are some communications problems, though. Mrs WBill can't understand some of my friends/relatives that have the thicker Downeast accents. lol!

Regarding your point on "stupidity"....Mrs WBill says that "slow doesn't mean dumb". I used to get frustrated with many of the locals who would take an eon just to spit out a sentence - especially after working for a long period of time in NYC, where people speak like machine guns. It was tough, coming from Maine where people rarely speak at all....to NYC where they hit you with rapid fire....to the south, where you just need to slooooooooooooooooooow dooooooownnnnnnnn.......

Yankee Directness is refreshing, but slow is good too. I'll live longer in the South!

And BTW, did you see where Bangor was getting a foot+ yesterday? It'll be in the 50s where I am today. I don't miss winter up there.

Unbelievable. Whatever floats your boat, I suppose. I've never had a cup of McDonald's coffee that was remotely palatable. I would add that it's not the first time the CU and I have parted company on what they consider "best"....

The common term a Southerner would use is "damned Yankee" for those who move to the south and stay. Gettin' pretty thick with 'em here in TN, too. They got me surrounded.....

Upshot: anyone can get by with decent meals by recycling 60 soda cans per day ($0.05 each) or working 25 minutes at minimum wage. Few indeed cannot earn $3/day in this country.

I like your thinking here. Absolutely agree, people willing to work will have no hunger problem in this nation. What's sad is that our system also allows people unwilling to work to eat. Once in a while a debate comes along FR about why people on welfare / WIC / etc... are fat. It's always a good read. It is possible to eat well for very little. Not bashing McDonald's either.
