(Jan. 22,2010) -- It's his show and he can cry if he wants to. But as Glenn Beck celebrated a successful first year on the air this week, viewers couldn't help but notice that the conservative firebrand wasn't in the partying mood.
One reason could be that the bully pulpit is getting a little crowded at Fox News. Sarah Palin's debut as the network's newest commentator seems to have irked Beck on some visceral, territorial level. And now, after waging a colorful -- and successful -- rhetorical war against President Barack Obama, the right-wing populist was engaged in an altogether new battle: defending his turf against the new pundit on the block. Lately, Beck seems more interested in scrutinizing his new colleague than railing against big government.
When he interviewed Palin on his show earlier this month, Beck had mostly softball questions for the former vice presidential candidate. But when he asked who her favorite founding father was, and Palin responded with an obtuse, "All of them because they came collectively together with so much diversity," Beck's tone turned sharp. "Bull crap," he said. "Who is your favorite?"
On Monday, Beck described his first encounter with Palin to Bill O'Reilly. "I've never met anybody with shields up more than Sarah Palin," he said. "When she walked on to my set, she was Googling. She was actually getting her hair and makeup done, and she was Googling and talking to people." Then came an outright jab: "She's playing defense right now where she should be playing offense," Beck told O'Reilly. "I'm not convinced that she wants to be president."

Beck certainly doesnt follow the crowd. This should be good!
Couldn't ever stand O'R and Beck's reaching that level.
At least he isn’t campaigning for McQueeg....
That Glenn Beck is such a troublemaker. First McCain, now Sarah and Scott. LOL
FWIW, I’m on Beck’s show next Friday, Jan. 29.
As someone who has listened to Beck daily for years, and who has seen nearly 100% of his shows on CNN Headline News and Fox News, I think this writer is way off-base. This is obviously someone who doesn’t regularly watch or listen, and hasn’t the faintest clue if Glenn’s style.
He’s making the ‘bullcrap’ statement sound angry and confrontational. He simply doesn’t get it.
I think he’s just holding the Gov.and Senator(elect) to a continuous fire.
Looks like Beck is not a Sarah-bot.
TV or radio?
Articles like these are just political hacks trying to drive a wedge.
Looks like there are quite a few here on FR willing to fall for the spin.
He’s never done a live show on Friday, I don’t think. Friday is usually reserved for documentaries and guest hosts. Either way, good luck, I’ll be sure to watch!
I think he gave the “bullcrap” remark to try and sound a little tougher on her - challenging her. He was just trying to make it look like he wasn’t going to let her get away with a vague answer.
He is right about that. She really let the bad guys get to her. And she can't seem to draw the line between loyalty and principle, in her support of McCain. She should have stayed out of it. Yes McCain choosing her will make her wealthy and well-liked nationally, but he then fed her to the dogs, sitting by silently while his aides tore her apart during and after the campaign. That was dishonorable, and she should have politely demurred when McCain called her for help in his nasty upcoming fight vs. the far superior Hayworth.
However, aside from that, Beck has not exactly distinguished himself this past week. The "bull crap" utternace to Palin was outrageously rude, and his idiotic blabberings against the newly-elected Scott Brown were not worthy of high school. This on the heels of Beck laying a real stinker bu pissing off those who dare to even question Obama's eligibility. I have not been a supporter of the so-called "Birthers" and think Orly Taitz should be put in a psych ward. But there are legitimate questions about the subject, and Beck crudely and dismissively insulted them.
I had thought 0verbite would be the “Howard Beale” who actually cracks up on camera. Now I’m thinking it’s this jealous fool who will do so.
Pointless article stirring the pot of trouble.
The criticism Beck and O’Reilly put forth on Palin was constructive, not malicious.
Who thinks O’Reilly’s primetime spot would maintain ratings with Palin hosting for a couple of months? What about Beck’s spot? Greta’s?
Beck and O’Reilly are doing Palin a favor.
How many years? It is my impression that he has spent most of his radio career as a shock jock and only recently started this schtick as a conservative commentator.
I have to confess that I find him increasingly hard to watch. His constant clowning is embarrassing. He just seems phony, as if someone else is feeding him his lines and his ideas. They don't flow from his own passions and thoughts. That's just my read on him.
I have been addicted to Beck’s show from day one. The man is so damn good. He has done a great deal for our county... though silly at times, he gets the message out.
I have lost some respect for him over these comments against Palin and Brown..... I’m starting to become suspicious and pissed off at the same time.
He better knock it off.
I heard Beck’s radio show for the first time in awhile this week. He ain’t the same Glenn Beck that used to broadcast from WPHT. He moved to the big city in more ways than one.
