US to lift 21-year ban on haggis
Guardian ^ | December 25, 2010 | Severin Carrell

Posted on 01/25/2010 10:54:02 AM PST by C19fan

Smuggled and bootlegged, it has been the cause of transatlantic tensions for more than two decades. But after 21 years in exile, the haggis is to be allowed back into the United States.

The "great chieftan o' the puddin-race" was one of earliest casualties of the BSE crisis of the 1980s-90s, banned on health grounds by the US authorities in 1989 because they feared its main ingredient ‑ minced sheep offal ‑ could prove lethal.

While I have a culinary curiosity
about food items I long to taste
among them the Famous Martinsville Speedway Hot Dog
which I would never let go to waste.

But my brain and stomach will revolt
if I am ever required to consume
Haggis or Eggplant or Okra
I’d have to leave the room.

Pickled pigs-feet, check
and even sushi too
But Haggis or Eggplant or Okra
Would leave me feeling blue.

The moral of this story
is sad but oh so true
I leave the Haggis and Eggplant and Okra
To you.

I love okra - fried, rolled in cornmeal and fried crunchy.
Eggplant is ok prepared the same way, a tad bitter for my taste though.

You can keep the rest.

I really thought we had something in common until I read your reply about Okra and Eggplant. Eggplant would make great ammunition for those giant sling shots. Please wrap my ring securely and insure it for $9.95 when you ship it back. No COD is excepted on the Vast Bender Estate...
