Palin engaged in 'kid stories' before speech

Mindi Davidson was "quite nervous" at the thought of meeting Sarah Palin on Friday night, but she wasn't daunted long.

"Once you start talking to her, it's like talking to someone that you've known forever," Davidson said.

Sharing the head table at the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce annual meeting, Davidson found she has a lot in common with Palin, despite her being a national Republican icon, former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate.

Before Palin took command of the packed Salina Bicentennial Center arena -- with about 6,000 in attendance -- she engaged in "mainly just family" talk with Davidson, the marketing officer and human resources administrator at First Bank Kansas in Salina. She was at the head table with her husband, Todd Davidson, an attorney with Hampton and Royce law offices in Salina. Todd is chairman-elect of the chamber board.

“Has anyone revealed what was written, haven’t seen it?”

I don't think anyone knows for sure but many believe it said, "Sometimes it takes a Carter to get a Reagan".

Another rumor around Washington D.C. is that it said "Obama, kiss my ass".

I must point out that there is no confirmation of either. I guess it will remain a mystery.

Thanks, that’s impressive, if that is all she had for a guide. Think there was an instance during the campaign where the teleprompter failed and she continued unfazed.

I’ve done lectures and briefings and always relied on a single sheet of paper with an outline of major and sub topics. That’s all you need if you know your subject.

Didn’t like multiple sheets, nor note cards, because it was too easy to get them out of order and become discombobulated, think that happened to a politician some time ago... then there was the crashed teleprompter.

“I don’t get why she wrote anything.....”

If it was not planned as a Rush Limbaugh sendup, it can be a running joke of how picayunish the MSM can be.

The palm writing bit has a very long life span if she wishes to use it.

I remember well the night Palin’s teleprompter crashed at the RNC convention in the middle of her great speech. Did she flinch? Did she stumble? Did she say uhhhh uhhhhh in the fashion of Obama? Nope. That's was the moment she went into her Hockey Mom vs Pitt Bull joke which received an explosive applause, maybe the largest of the night. None of us knew of the crash until later. She recovered like a true speaking professional.

I don’t get why she wrote anything on her hand instead of say a note card or paper, but who cares? It’s not like the event was the SATs or something where she’s smuggling in answers and cheating. It’s not like it was a “no notes allowed” deal.

You ever teach classes or give a lot of speeches? This is a common thing to do and something I have done when teaching computer classes back when I was still working for a living. Lots of speakers do it and the MSM knows this but of course any excuse to ridicule Sarah is jumped on.
