President Obama Digs In to a Southern-Style Lunch, Says He Doesn't Want 'Lectures' About Cholesterol
abc ^ | 3/2/10 | ABC News’ Karen Travers and Sunlen Miller report:

Posted on 03/02/2010 2:38:44 PM PST by Nachum

Just days after his doctors expressed concerns about his rising cholesterol levels, President Obama dropped by a family-style restaurant for an authentic – but perhaps not so healthy – Southern style lunch in Savannah, Georgia.

In between events, Obama paid a visit to Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room and made it clear he did not want to hear it from the press about his choice of lunch.

“I don’t want any lectures about my cholesterol,” Obama said. “Don’t tell Michelle.”

What would you like with your side of lard, Mr 0bama?

As far as I am concerned, he can eat whatever causes him to expire sooner than later.

Smoke till his lungs rot, too, BUT NOT INSIDE THE WHITE HOUSE.

One of major socializing principles of Obamacare is the elimination of risk premiums for unhealthy behavior — poor nutrition, smoking, excessive drinking, obesity, etc.

Premiums and taxes will be extracted from everyone regardless of how careful or healthy a particular individual tries to be.

At the same time, the federal government will have an intense financial interest in controlling the behavior of all Americans in order to manage health care spending.

Furthermore, liberals are permanently entrenched in the federal bureaucracy and liberals refuse to make rational distinctions where favored groups are concerned, for example, promiscuous homosexuals or drug abusers. However, the burden will come down like a crushing weight on disfavored groups, such as white heterosexuals.

So there will be no “carrot” for taking care of your health, but lots of “sticks” for beating the crap out of you and taking your money to pay for others.

However, in every case where the Left has power, exceptions are made for the nomenklatura - the cadre of right-thinking political elite, such as Obama.

So people like Obama will be able to eat whatever they like, or smoke and drink, regardless of health effects, because there will be no health rationing or denial for the politically-connected.

Good thing he wasn’t in NYC. He’d be arrested for partaking.

Is this it?

Joe’s Special
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 pounds lean ground beef
2 medium onions, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely minced
1/2 pound mushrooms, sliced, (optional)
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, fresh ok
1/4 teaspoon dry oregano, fresh ok
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 (10-ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry; or 1/2 pound fresh spinach, rinsed, stems removed,
and leaves chopped (about 4 cups)
4 to 6 large eggs, lightly beaten
Preparation:
Continuing with the introduction, Don says,
“Some say this famous San Francisco specialty was devised by a San Francisco chef as a variation on the Italian frittata. Others insist it was created as an after-hours snack by dance-band musicians of the 1920’s (My Dad went with this one). A third theory attributes the dish to miners who frequented the city’s riotous Barbary Coast district in the 1850’s.

Whatever its origin may be, this hearty mixture of beef, onions, spinach and eggs makes a satisfying meal any time, day or night.

1.Heat oil in a wide frying pan over high heat. Crumble in beef and cook, stirring often, until browned. Drain excess fat.

2.Add onions, garlic and mushrooms; reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are softened, about 5 minutes.

3.Stir in salt, nutmeg, pepper, oregano and spinach; cook for about 5 more minutes. Add beaten eggs. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring constantly, just until eggs are softly set. Serve with plenty of grated Parmesan cheese and perhaps hard crust Italian sour dough bread

Would the name of the restaurant be referring to Mrs. Ashley Wilkes?

Large un-chewed bites of rare steak would be a lot quicker. I’m sure there are lots of folks at the lunch who are good at the “hindlick” maneuver.

Nope, it was a real lady named Mrs. Wilkes who took over a boardinghouse back in the 40s and made it into a Savannah institution.

Just like there was a real Mary Mac (Mary McKinsey) who started Mary Mac's Tea Room -- the Atlanta equivalent to Mrs. Wilkes's. It was taken over in the 50s by Margaret Lupo, who ran it until her retirement in the 90s. It's still around, but it's run by a young fellow now - he's done his best to keep the food the same.

That’s pretty close. I’d sauté the onions and garlic before putting the meat in, but that’s me. I just did a Yahoo Driving Directions session from my current town in Virginia to Marin Joe’s off of 101 while looking at a pdf of their menu. I should be able to make it there in 41 hours or so.

November 4, 1994. Julianne Malveaux famously stated of Supreme Court Justice Thomas: “I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease....He is an absolutely reprehensible person.”

That wasn’t a very gracious comment then. Of course Justice Thomas wasn’t downing fried chicken and rejecting doctor’s advice.

My cooking doesn’t hold a candle to my late father’s. I could take my best shot at it, and something would still be missing.

I’ll do it this weekend- I need the right pan for it and a trip to Safeway or Wegman’s, first.
