Obamacare Death Watch (Update #96)
Posted on March 20th, 2010 by Ryan Booth Submit Well be updating this entry all weekend. Follow us on Twitter for notifications of the latest updates.
Update 3-20, 8:55 AM: As I predicted last night, prospects for a Stupak deal appear to be collapsing. Im putting the word death back in the thread title shame on me for taking it out.
Update 3-20, 8:00 AM: Stupak was right. Back on Wednesday, he told The Hill in an interview:
Theyll call me the night before and say, Hey, weve got to work this out. We dont have the votes, he said. Then we get serious.
Members in Question [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
Stupak swingers at the moment appear to be: Kaptur of Ohio, Berry of Arkansas, Cueller of Texas, and Rahall of West Virginia.
If you live in any one of these districts, you might want to buck your representative up.
UPDATE: With #s:
Berry (202) 225-4076
Rahall (202) 225-3452
Says that if it is 215-215 the bill is dead.
Thank you for posting this! I need sanity support! Big time!

Thoughts on Stupak? Why the presser?
Cavuto is live today- he’ll have Mark Levin on this hour to discuss the suit Landmark Legal Foundation will bring immediately IF this goes through.
Well here we go. I feel like I’m living in Zimbabwe.
Barton saying we are about to unleash a cultural war in this country if you do this demon pass.
He is right about that.
Pro-choice members of the House are in revolt, threatening to kill the health care bill after Nancy Pelosi agreed to give Bart Stupak a vote on a concurrent resolution which would tie his language on abortion to the Senate bill and substitute it for the Nelson language.
Marcia Pappas, President of New York Now, released an open letter encouraging the women in Congress to oppose the deal:
March 19, 2010
An open letter to every woman in Congress:
Today, women in the United States are fighting for their lives. You must fight too! A womans right to have safe and legal abortion is about to be traded away.
We are asking all of you fight like you have never fought before. Tonight, It has become clear that the our Democratic President Obama, Democratic Speaker of the House (Nancy Pelosi) and Democratic Leader (Harry Reid) are trading away womens lives.
Every woman in Congress should MAKE HISTORY AND WALK OUT ! This is your chance to stand up for what is right! Forget politics, forget saving your seat! You must take a chance!
If you sit back and allow the passage of the health care bill with Stupak, women in America will not vote for another Democrat ..myself included. Because there will essentially be no difference between the Democrats and the Republicans.
What will it be? Will you all go down in history following the boys, or will you finally stand up for what is right? Its up to all of you. We elected you because we believed that having women at the table would make a difference. Dont let us down.
Marcia A. Pappas
According to The Hill, were the resolution to pass the House, it would instruct the Senate clerk to change the healthcare bill to reflect Stupaks more restrictive language to prohibit federal dollars from going toward abortion coverage.
There were 41 members of Congress who signed Diana DeGettes letter saying we will not vote for a conference report that contains language that restricts womens right to choose any further than current law. Although the language in the Senate bill most certainly goes way beyond current law, the members have thus far stayed silent and DeGette has not released the names on the letter.
Jan Schakowsky, Mike Capuano, Mike Quigley, Carolyn Maloney, Judy Chu and Louise Slaughter have publicly said that they signed the letter. Betsy Markey and Anne Kirkpatrick are also signatories.
As I mentioned this morning, abortion would not be an issue in the Plan B alternative that the White House was contemplating three weeks ago, which would evidently expand existing programs Medicaid and SCHIP. It would cover half the people at a quarter of the price, but it would not include the politically toxic mandate that threatens to trigger nationwide opposition in the form of 2010 ballot amendments. Because it creates no new infrastructure for the purpose of funneling money to private insurance companies, there is no need for either Bart Stupaks or Ben Nelsons language dealing with abortion which satisfies the concerns of both pro-choice and anti-choice members of Congress.
Both programs are already covered under existing law, the Hyde amendment.
Good...close the lid and ship it to Siberia.
Stupak is the Dems “fly in the ointment.” Unless Pelosi decided to compromise and meet the demands of Stupak last night, his press conference will be about why he is voting “NO” and what the Democrats can do to get him to “YES.”
Stupak will be the American people’s hero at the end of this.
Is Mark Levin going to protest? He went to first one, right?
You’re not alone FRiend :)
Did Fox & Friends say that the had 217 yes votes this morning?
Marcy Kaptur must want a deal. They’ve been running ads here on talk radio station asking people to call and tell her to vote “no.”
Great idea, thanks for starting this. I was hoping for one thread where I could check throughout the day.
Awesome- I’m crossing my eyes, toes, fingers and heart!
The momentum seems to shift a bit?
Thxs Mom for the ping!
Fox ahd an article on their site yesterday that said yes they had 216, BUT it was an AP article, and used fuzzy math (many assumptions, faulty assumptions IMO).
Yes they did so they know about as much as we!
Thanks for the ray of sunshine and the thread.
THe next day is going to be hell.
Did I hear him end the interview saying he believes Pelosi will pull this out?
If anti-abortion language is not in the Senate bill, how can any kind of concession be made to the Senate bill before the House, to include new language?
It seems to me that their reporting on this has not been responsible.
Following this process/issue has been as nerve-wracking as following the recounts when Al Gore tried to steal the election in 2000.
Thanks for posting this. I’ve been checking the status constantly.
Yes, they did with Murphy’s switch to yes. I was flipping out. I need tranquilizers!
I don’t know who the guy was with Neil just now- but he’s digging in his heels- not happy with the medicare language...
I cry for our America. We have allowed it to taken from us from within. A call to Patriots....
No. Delay said Pelosi is “in a box.”
Please post phone numbers and those of with blackberry type devices can call from the crowd.
Sometimes I get the feeling around here that abortion of the one sticking point in this entire bill. Well, it’s not. It’s like, if Stupak gets his way, and can then vote for the bill, that it’ll be okay. Total BS! Yes, abortion is a critical factor, but the entire overhaul according to BHO, Pelosi, Reid and their nutjobs is a disaster for America! Stupak is only holding out because of abortion...he and all the rest should be holding out because this is downright wrong on all accounts. Period!
Gov Rick Perry gave him a phone call:)
Mark Levin on Cavuto Now!
Isn’t this just the Stupak charade all over again? Republicans are afraid to vote against such a move, even though the vote itself has no impact and won’t stop the bill from becoming law. So the panties-in-a-wad feminists don’t have to vote for it, but it passes, which gives the Stupak stooges enough cover to vote the bill into law.
Are you listening to Levin on Cavuto? He’s answering the question you were pondering earlier...
This has been debunked. This author is an Obama hack. Lies and distortion to get the conservative base to feel defeated.
Levin on Cavuto bump!!!
User mailbox is full and can’t leave a message.
Then I hope somebody sits on the box....(poke some breathing holes in it....I'm not totally cruel).
