Thanks for the ping.

What do you think?
swine flu article ping :)
thanks for the ping :)
I would hardly include H1N1 in that list you put up there... Feel lucky you haven’t had it. I agree it wasn’t the pandemic they were predicting (hoping for?). However, it’s far from being anything like Y2K, or Global Warming.
When my daughter was in the hospital 2 months ago I saw kids in the PICU on ventilators due to this horrendous virus. I don’t think their parents would agree with you that it was a “scam”.
Every member of my family had it (in April of last year before regular testing started). I ended up with a secondary bronchial infection that had me coughing up blood right after I got home from the doctor’s office with 2 different ventilators and anti-virals (I won’t go into detail regarding how much pain I was in). It’s clear to me now that if I had waited even perhaps one more day to go in... Well, I would’ve been in VERY bad shape... As for the rest of my family they were all extremely ill for 2-3 weeks (myself and my daughter were sick for about 6 weeks altogether).
We also had to put down our beloved kitten (who did have underlying health problems) and who fell ill on the same day as the rest of my family — at first we thought it was a horrible coincidence, but come to find out a few months later it has been proven that this virus can infect cats.
It’s not a joke, and it’s far from something cooked up to make people money (like Global Warming). You may not agree with how widespread this was as reported, or if it qualified as a true epidemic, or pandemic. But it DOES exist, and it’s bad... [Unlike Y2K which thanks to many computer programmers who in the years leading up to 2000 worked their butts off to prevent any catastrophic breakdowns, and unlike Global Warming which we now know - without a doubt - was a bunch of trumped up garbage.]
Just a friendly warning I would like to add here...
I’ve seen so many occasions in life where people have made light of situations, or joke about them, or cop an attitude of disbelief, and then end up learning the hard way that they were VERY wrong. I would very much hate to see that happen to you... YMMV with this warning — It’s just something I’ve seen happen to friends and family members in a variety of situations...
I haven’t heard of this proposed bill from McCain — he seriously wants to ban OTC vitamins? He MUST be delusional!!! Do you recall the name of the bill, or the number so that my search to learn more about this proposition might be a bit easier? [A link would be FANTASTIC of course, but a title would work just as well — I don’t have time to search by subject with all of the health related bills in the Congressional Search system at the moment.]
Thanks for the ping. I can understand people being upset at how governments across the world tried to use this virus as an excuse to grab more power — or to scare people into wanting someone to protect them... However, I’m shocked that some on this thread are treating this as if it’s all make-believe. Or at least that’s the impression I’m getting — perhaps I just need more caffeine this morning...
All I can say is that I had this, as did my family, and my poor kitten whom we had to put down. It’s very real - even if it didn’t spread as widely, or become as lethal as some of the ID docs thought it might after the summer.
Hear! Hear! Yaelle... My whole family was sick, and being Mom I didn’t realize how sick I was while taking care of everyone else. Had I waited even one more day to see the doctor — well, thank the Lord I went in... I didn’t realize why I was in so much pain, and couldn’t even cough - come to find out I was in a perpetual asthma-like attack at that point. Praise God for the doctors/scientists who invented inhalers. I was still very sick for a while - but thank God I didn’t need to be hospitalized. Can’t believe some people are treating this as a total joke.
Granted, it didn’t develop into the worldwide killer they thought it would — but then we have much better medicine and access to care than folks in the past as well. I don’t think people take that into account either... Plus, before testing was mandatory how many people around the world were sick and chalked it up to a regular flu (like my doctors thought I had), or died due to complications before they even realized this virus was making it’s journey across the world?
Besides my family I personally know 5 other families who were all sick with this disease as well — they caught it in May or June though, after the doctors were testing everyone for it... When I saw the doctor their words were “Yeah, there’s something really nasty going around right now...”.
Glad you recovered, Yaelle. I would’ve missed seeing you around here! :)
Don't overlook the immediate application of the "tanning" tax. Yet another means of access to Vitamin D.
I work for a large Pharma company, and see things from another perspective. This "pandemic" was a high-fiving "cha-ching!" experience for vaccine manufacturers.
That way we'll all be COMPLETELY dependant on Big Brother for every aspect of our health and well being.

Thanks hennie pennie. Nope, not a bioweapon. The flu mixes and matches genes with various hosts (ducks, pigs, people, maybe others) and occasionally has become hemmorhagic (the victim starts to bleed in their lungs, for example, coughs up blood, dies). The 19th century saw a number of really bad fatal strains of flu a few times. In fact, anyone who survived the last bad one of the 19th c didn't even contract the Spanish Lady in 1918. :') |

And H5N1 has been pretty active lately especially in Viet Name which of course is right smack dab next to China, and I think next to or near Guang Dong, where the Chinese have their bioweapon research labs....
Also, Vietnamese doctors and reserachers have issued statements recently that there are several (can’t remember - five? or seven?) different strains of H5N1 now in Viet Name, one or more is resistant to tamiflu. H5N1 and swine H1N1 could mix and match still, and if they do, it could be extremely dangerous.
While some would avoid the disease outbreak and not pass on immunity or a predisposition toward it, those who survived it would pass that genetic predisposition toward resistance to their descendants.
The group who avaided the infection might have had descendants who were susceptible to the old strain and naything similar, or other factors may apply. Some people got very ill, and somedied.
If the two virial strains are very similar, that may account for the overall relative lack of mortality.
I think part of the problem many commenting have is that, although apparently widespread (although the datasets were screwed up by testing procedures), most of those who got the bug apparently had a mild case of the flu.
Whether a pandemic exists is a question of how many get the bug, and how widespread the infection is, whether or not they become extremely ill or die in droves because of that infection.
The waters are further muddied by Socialist politics, and I would guess the H1N1 flu was supposed to provide the health care crisis which would have had Americans welcoming Obamacare with open arms. It not only failed, the Obamites had to cram the program down America's throat, despite a continuing better than two to one objection to the program.
Thanks for the ping!
Oops someone left the bioengineering door open again. May not have been bioterrorism.. might have been the companies manufacturing the vaccine, they must start somewhere to develop it.
Thank you for the ping.
AH! That explains it. I understand what you are saying about the vaccine manufacturers. We are just viewing this from a different position. :)
