What can I do?
Buy a gun and keep your children close Keep your doors locked and get a alarm system..You did not say if this savage molested an adult or child..
If the law is more restrictive and I can see that the man is already in violation on living within 528’ of a registered preschool (it’s locted in a church) and a city park that cant be more than 250’ (he lives at one end of the street and our street is probably just a wee bit longer than 3 blocks.
I can’t tell that and don’t know where to look for details of the crime the postcard says level 3 sex offender, crime rape?
At least you were notified. We found out through our neighbor, that a Level 2 moved in. The King County Sheriffs Office (WA) shows he is two blocks from a middle school, and just a block away from my house and my 8-year old son.
Level 1: The vast majority of registered sex offenders are classified as Level 1 offenders. They are considered at low risk to re-offend. These individuals may be first time offenders and they usually know their victims.
Level 2 offenders have a moderate risk of re-offending. They generally have more than one victim and the abuse may be long term. These offenders usually groom their victims and may use threats to commit their crimes. These crimes may be predatory with the offender using a position of trust to commit their crimes. Typically these individuals do not appreciate the damage they have done to their victims.
Level 3 offenders are considered to have a high risk to re-offend. They usually have one or more victims and may have committed prior crimes of violence. They may not know their victim(s). The crime may show a manifest cruelty to the victim(s) and these offenders usually deny or minimize the crime. These offenders commonly have clear indications of a personality disorder.
IN a large nutshell: (major snippage to give you only the pertinant facts...I find it very odd that only the admin has to be notified, and there are no feet requirements from a school or playground. Crimeny!)

I wish we would do what the Indians used to do in the Northwest. Relocate them to a remote Arctic Island and live or let die.
I agree.
Unfortunately, the reality is that those who run our “justice” system apparently do not see things that way.
Anger.
I’ll never understand that stupid law anyways. If they can’t live in a certain area...they can walk, drive, bus or roller skate to one. Just stupid.
The Dems want to make sure he gets his Viagra coverage ,too.

This might be a good time to, like, actually, ummm, talk to your neighbors...
I think there is a bit of confusion. Jessica's Law is the informal name given to a 2005 Florida law, as well as laws in several other states, designed to punish sex offenders and reduce their ability to re-offend.
A version of Jessica's Law, known as the Jessica Lunsford Act, introduced at the federal level in 2005 but not enacted into law by Congress. Congress is not empowered by the Constitution to insert itself into the affairs of state's police powers.
The question is about state law vs. federal law.
Note that the supremacy clause is a hot topic these days, for other reason.
What the heck does distance from a school matter? He can walk or drive there. This is idiocy to think sex offenders, which should be hanged anyway, should live so far away from schools. This is like the 1000 foot rule for guns from schools. Stupid, just stupid.
FYI, a mile is 5,280 feet, not 528, which makes a difference if the law is within 1000 feet of a school.
I just found this:
http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/2950.034
and it specifies 1000’ from a preschool and there is no way that the preschool is farther away than that! Mapquest said .1 mi but that is by goijg on the streets by the way the crow flies it is probably less than 250’
Yes I know it is .1 meaning 1/10th of a mile which is 528’. :)
Jessica’s Law is not a Federal Law. Each state has their own version of this law.
Don't forget, you get to pay for his Viagra too.
