I like stories about sisters with strong bonds who overcome adversity.

We’ll probably have to go back to Zeppelins. We will all be able to live our Steampunk fantasies.

I, for one, am in favor of imposing severe economic sanctions on Iceland for allowing this to happen.

Gaia is so angry with humans for warming up the planet that Gaia is going to release billions of tons of mess into the air to block the sun and freeze the humans. And a bunch of animals.

So the cruiseship and other shipping lines need to gear up to offer more transatlantic crossings.

The ‘year without summer’ was 1816 and was caused by low solar flux (as we currently have) and the eruption of the Tambora super volcano. The Icelandic volcanoes are pinpricks compared to Tambora.

“what causes volcanoes to erupt???”

Ummmm....Europe screwing Iceland in the financial meltdown Iceland had and is still in the middle of. Looks like the Euro-peons are feeling the payback”

You are now officially my favorite poster on this site, I wish more people would look into what the EU bully is doing to my tiny country. It must be thorn in their flesh to have independent countries in their midsts.

But seriously folks, you need to start breathing through your noses. Katla is not Lakagígar (Laki is actually not a mountain, and the eruption there was, hopefully, a one off event), and like someone posted here previosly Katla has erupted more often than Eyjafjalla-glacier. It will have some impact sure, but as we have been waiting for it for a while, it being over with will be a relief.

You guys have to remember that my country is big, and these places are not so heavily populated, and we have a very thorough surweilance system of our volcanoes. The greatest danger is when they start, that nobody is too close, but after they have started, even though they will spew some ash over the southern glacier rivers (not much farming in its immediate vicinity) and the northern highlands, I doubt it will kill or maim anyone, given that nobody is actually on top of it when it erupts, or in the flood basin when the flood starts, but we will have ample time to clear it of any people. There has not been any signs measured by scientists that Katla is erupting, or will soon, and although we have 3 or 4 instances of Eyjafjalla-glacier erupting in our 1000 year history in this land, and Katla following within 2 years, people won´t have to worry to much about their safety. In my not so long live I have experienced too numerous eruptions to remember how many, and although Katla probably will be the biggest yeat, there is no cause for overreaction.

As I mentioned once before there is a town of 1000 that lies close to it, but it probably won´t be flooded, it lies in such a place it has never been previously, although the people there are aware of the danger. In fact it will be saved because a natural barrier, Kötlutangi, that has protected the town from the sea, has slowly been chipped away so the sea is threatening the town. The mud coming from the eruption will thus add land to the town giving it another hundred years of life ;).

Despite what I said in the beginning, the closure of the airports is not our fault or my countries, but what was most likely an overreaction of the Europeans.

So coming to Iceland is not in any way dangerous, and our international airports, will always be open, if not the biggest one in Keflavík (rarely downwind from the volcanoes), then the others in other parts of the country.

Our currency is cheap these days so visiting an “happening” place is a bargain these days. I wish you all a happy summer, as today is our oldest holiday, when we celebrate the first day of summer according to the old viking age calender, best wishes,

Leifur

So after I signed the bill, I looked around to see if there any — (laughter) — asteroids falling or — (applause) — some cracks opening up in the Earth. (Laughter.)...

Great catch. Sounds like Das Furher declared MISSION ACCOMPLISHED a little too early.

I just heard that Laki would probably be 10 times more powerful.
Yep. I saw the same data. Scary, if it blows. It would severely impact the US.

The prevailing winds would affect Europe more but it wouldn’t be good.

If it blows, it would probably put a stop to some of 0bamas evil schemes like Cap and Trade.

Great post. Thanks for adding a human dimension to all that we’re hearing about the Iceland volcanoes.

I knew that Icelanders have a long history, but I had no idea that your people have been in that country for 1,000 years.

Perhaps all of this attention will draw more tourism to your country. It sounds like a very interesting place.

Thank you yourself, and I hope and actually belief you are right. As someone said, there is no such thing as bad publicity, and we have always had spikes in our tourism when we have been in the news. Hopefully people will not overreact to any scaremongering.

But yeah, we can be said to be the first immigrant country, there has been permanent settlement here since the year 874, and we adopted christianity as state religion in the year 1000. Leifur Eiríksson found Vinland then sometime between and introduced Christianity to our Greenlandic settlement, which had an offshot settlement in America, where the first european on mainland America was born, Snorri Þorfinnsson.

In 1262 we lost our independence to Norway, and the european powers slowly and surely undermined all independent icelandic institutions, so when “móðuharðindin” (the fog hardships), the hardships during the eruption of Lakagígar, 1783 - 1785, came, at similar time as serious diseases killed thousand of our then tiny population, we had no functional internal institutions to tackle the problems.

During this time of our lowest standing we probably lost around half to even twothirds of our population. But that would not happen today, we are not as dependent on livestock and without any connections and means of organizing and traveling like when we had been a tax colony of the Europeans for centuries, sucking all strength out of our society.

So, beware, never loose your local independence.

How utterly prophetic this satanic sacrifice period is certainly 'living' up to it's darkest expectations. Let's see Gaia worship on April 22nd was the great deciever's first religion; paganism. We celebrate every apostate religion during a three day period. From Cutting Edge sit back and read about the most critical 13-day blood sacrifice period to the Beast. Beginning with April 19th, 20-22!!!!!

April 19 - May 1

-- Blood Sacrifice To The Beast, a most critical 13-day period. Fire sacrifice is required on April 19.

April 19 is the first day of the 13-day Satanic ritual day relating to fire -- the fire god, Baal, or Molech/Nimrod (the Sun God), also known as the Roman god, Saturn (Satan/Devil). This day is a major human sacrifice day, demanding fire sacrifice with an emphasis on children. This day is one of the most important human sacrifice days, and as such, has had some very important historic events occur on this day.

Remember, the Illuminati considers war to be a most propitious way to sacrifice, for it kills both children and adults.

Some of the very important historic dates that were staged according to this blood sacrifice day are:

(1). April 19, 1775 -- Battle of Lexington & Concord, which made the Revolutionary War inevitable

(2). April 19, 1943 -- After trapping the last Jewish Resistance Fighters in a storm drain in Warsaw, and holding them for several days, Nazi Storm Troopers began to pour fire into each end of the storm drain, using flame-throwers. They continued pouring the fire into the drain until all fighters were dead. Blood sacrifice brought about by a fiery conflagration.

(3) April 19, 1993 -- 50 years later, to the day, government troops, tanks, and other military equipment stormed the compound of David Koresh and his followers at Waco, Texas. Certainly, this operation fulfilled the basic requirements for a human sacrifice: trauma, fire, and young sacrificial victims.

(4) April 19, 1995 -- Oklahoma City bombing -- Once again, many young children were killed this day

April 19 of any year in the 20th Century is a day of fearful contemplation, for it seems that, as we head into the final stretch of time, Satan is becoming more and more bold, and is using April 19 more often.

Hitler born April 20

Mohammed born April 20

It depends on how much time you have. Many attractive places are in the vicinity of the capital Reykjavík (we are far from beeing affected by this all), and most take the so called golden circle, that takes in the most popular and known places:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Circle_(Iceland)

If you have more time, it is nice to linger a bit in the countryside, f.e. go to the North, and visit Akureyri, Mývatn and Húsavík, which has a very popular whale watching operations. You can also see that in Reykjavík, and not so far from Reykjavík you can also see the whaling stations, which is thankfully now back in bussiness.

As the volcanic eruption is probably over in the summer, or at least managable, the southern part will be quite safe to visit, and of course the highlands are popular, Landmannalaugar and Thorsmörk could be open although it is closed now due to its vicinity to the site.

Then you could also go to the Vestmann islands, or even to the Vestfjords, which are off the beaten track but very nice. If you like hiking we have lot of routes, short and long, one of the most popular one walks between Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull where Katla is, and the path is just by where the eruption started, before it moved under the glacier. It is called Fimmvörðuháls:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fimmv%C3%B6r%C3%B0uh%C3%A1ls

It started eruption there on the 20. of march, then a little lull came in it and few days later it came out under the glacier itself, few kilometers away.

Have a nice time, and take care to prepare for fantastic summernights where the darkness never comes.

Here is a video from a local newssite, it is in Icelandic but shows the local impact, on the closest farms. It is named:

Bjartsýnn þótt útlitið sé svart

which means,

Optimistic though it looks dark

http://mbl.is/mm/frettir/sjonvarp/?play=1;media_id=48480&ref=fprenningur

It shows the ash, but the farmer is not convinced that he won´t be able to get some grass from it later in the summer.

Thanks Nachum.
Each time Eyjafjallajokull has erupted in the past 2,000 years -- in 920, in 1612 and between 1821 and 1823 -- Katla has exploded within six months.

Interesting.

Thanks.

Did anyone save a pic of the glacier before it got dark there . . . from the webcam?
