NBC Bay Area On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population.

Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal's office.

"They said we could wear it on any other day," Daniel Galli said, "but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today."

The boys said the administrators called their T-shirts "incendiary" that would lead to fights on campus.

Weird as it is, if anything, an anti-French and/or anti-royalist holiday.

It sickens me how whenever the La Raza Youth do their flag waving and marches, we don't have any American youth with the balls to take them on, "hate crime" laws be damned.

The supervisor of our forklift motor pool was a proud to be naturalized American citizen from Mexico. He told me that he had NEVER heard of Cinco de Mayo until he came to America.

Kwanzaa de Mayo?

You can get through at this number.

Be advised, the female that helped me, was in total agreement that this was a national outrage and embarrassment...

I hope everyone will take a minute and call now!

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Morgan Hill Unified School District said it did not agree with the school’s actions.

“In an attempt to foster a spirit of cultural awareness and maintain a safe and supportive school environment, the Live Oak High School administration took certain actions earlier today,” the statement read. “The district does not concur with the Live Oak High School administration’s interpretation of either board or district policy related to these actions.”

Attempts to reach school officials early Thursday were not successful. A secretary told the Morgan Hill Times that Boden and Rodriguez were unavailable for comment on Wednesday.

Freshman Laura Ponce, who had a Mexican flag painted on her face and chest, told the Morgan Hill Times that Cinco de Mayo is the "only day" Mexican-American students can show their national pride.

Take your smart little *ss to Mexico and show your 'national pride' there, honey!

This school and the school district are the laughing stock of the nation for the moment. An FR Laughing Stock award should be given to them!

Live Oak High School even hosted a group of professional baile folklorico dancers, who waved flags and played traditional music from Mexico.

Would this clown force the students to do the same on St. Patrick’s Day?

These American students are going to an American school paid for by American tax dollars.

Time to choose, folks.

Awwwww. How wishy-washy of them. Why don't you discipline the person(s) that mis-interpreted your policy? Seems to me that this statement is nothing short of a CYA statement from a group that secretly agrees with the principal. Heck, I'd venture to guess that there was "an agreement" between the School board and the HS to do exactly what happened, figuring they'd never get caught.

Per Wikipedia

"While Cinco de Mayo sees limited significance and celebration nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed nationwide in the United States and other locations around the world"

Ironic or a political tool?

We report. You decide...
