Postal letter carriers paid more than military per Fox News article

An average sergeant in the Army with four years of service and one dependent would receive $52,589 in annual compensation, according to the paper. This figure includes basic pay, housing and subsistence allowances, as well as tax benefits.

Meanwhile, a U.S. Postal letter carrier, with no supervisory or hazardous duty, makes approximately $80,000 a year when all benefits are factored in.

Ancient Romes armies would refuse to fight if they didn’t get enough pay.

On the other hand where else can a high school graduate be making $53,000 per year at age 21 or 22?

On the other hand, the SGT has a much better chance of playing with cool weapon systems and blowing up stuff. I'd take a 30K pay hit for that. Job satisfaction counts for a lot.

The USPS spent millions buying sorting machines for periodicals but does not use them. Instead these are processed manually because the union doesn’t want their jobs to go away.

My mail carrier isn’t worth minimum wage! Can’t tell you how many times one of my neighbors in the apartment building has knocked on my door to give me mail of mine that was accidentally put in their box, even though it was addressed correctly...and I frequently get theirs, too. Quite often I’ll order something in the mail and it never arrives, so either I have some neighbors who aren’t giving me my mail, or maybe it was sent to a different address entirely. It happens WAY too much. I’m thinking of filing a complaint, but will the mail carrier retaliate against me then?

The days when people used to recite that famous poem about the mail carriers delivering through rain, sleet, etc., back when they earned respect, seem to be over...at least where I live.

Don’t give the Left any ideas...now they’re going to want to unionize the armed forces.

You didn’t know this? All postal employees are overpaid. Everyone I know knows that it’s a great paying job. Gov’t will never think to lower their salaries instead of raising the cost to the consumer and cutting service.

"On the other hand where else can a high school graduate be making $53,000 per year at age 21 or 22?"

And, on the other, other hand, where can someone making $53K a year, irrespective of age, find themselves in jail for failing to do the job that they were hired to do, or for mouthing off to the boss, or any number of things that people in the civilian world wouldn't even be fired for, let alone imprisoned.

I would point out that the mean salary - at least two years ago - for an E-5 was $26K annually. And, I would guess that most E-5s are not 21-22, but closer to 25-26, and fresh E-5's aren't making $26K annually, they're probably making around $21K annually, or even a a little less.
