Ok so I filled out my census form with the constitutionally required information (how many people live here) and sent it in. Still, I have had two different census workers show up here telling me that it is my duty to complete the form and that it is their duty to "help me" do that. Both incidents have been polite on either side however I realize that eventually the time will come when they will stop being polite.
Last night the census worker was asking for our names. I was sorely tempted to give them made up names but I understand falsifying that document might be a crime so I just smiled and repeated (to her consternation) that 3 people live here.
After I repeated the same line the third time in reponse to her pleadings, she got the point (must be a liberal) and left with the admonition that they will be back one more time.
I said, "One more time and then no more? Promise?"
Has anyone else had any issues with these people yet?
I, too, sent in number of residents - that’s it - three days after receiving...
Of course, not good enough for the gov so out trots a worker (we live on three acres in the boonies) who was pleasant, said he was a 23 yr vet of USAF (hmmm). I said (nicely) he ought to get a better job; no, I would not give him my name; I was sorry he could see what my race was because it shouldn’t matter and if you really want to know more info, we are tax payers so look it up...
“Is Carlys look at attempt to secure the lesbian vote in California?”
Nope....it’s the new rage amongst all cancer survivors.
There is this to consider:
The majority of people who are complaining about the intrusion are white, conservative, etc, possible tea party affiliates. Though I did read an article in which the Asian American legal defense league (or some such) was not highly recommending compliance as they were not properly reassured that the information would not be used against them in the future (wwii anyone?).
If such people are under-counted, the possibility of a nasty surprise for gerrymandered supposed democrat districts at voting time is amusing.
But it is more likely that under reporting such numbers will result in the passage of more stupid laws regarding racial quotas and voting district language regulations and what not.
If the majority is determined to no longer be a majority because it willfully underreported its numbers, it may find itself in worse shape long term, because you can bet that this whole tripe about protecting minorities is a one way street.
I wrote back in black sharpie on the form. “There is one American male renting at this address and that’s all the information you will get as long as that communist bastard is in the White House.”
Since then, there has been someone at my door twice to collect information but I was not home. So, I wrote a note I left in an envelope at my front door politely telling this woman that I have complied with the law and she now has her head count so she is free to go off and harass others.
The way I look at this, since Obama moved the Census Bureau from the Commerce Department to the White House, I consider the census taker a paid political operative.
Next, I am waiting for the census’ next move but I plan to stand my ground, at least until they bring police or lawyers into in. If they ask me for my name, I may tell them my name is Barack Hussein Obama and if they want proof they can look up my birth certificate in Hawaii.
The workers said she was the only home on her block that returned her form, and could she proxy for the other 13 families. She did & gave the info "for her neighbors".
I said my goodness, that like making up votes! She got quite upset and said NO! Are you stupid? Do you know what the Census does?? When I explained to her that I knew what the purpose was, she got pissed. Her parting shot was " I love how folks like you complain of gov't intrusion in schools, business etc, but have no problem driving on federally funded roads! I just cracked up laughing & ended the conversation!
If a census worker asks me for my race, my response will be:
“Why? Are you profiling?”
We don’t have any no trespassing signs up on the main property. We own lower land with no trespassing signs. Seems hunters like the land :(
No one has shown up yet but I put first initials only for the names other than myself.
The Census person has been to my house at least 6 times! He has even started plaguing my neighbor next door. They sent in their census form. We’ve either missed the Census person or we refuse to answer the doors. The other night (6th visit) he left my house and I thought he had left the area. I went to my neighbor’s house and there he was again. He saw me in the yard and said “Knock, Knock”. I just looked at him and then ignored him and walked around to the back of the house.I feel bad about being so rude. He knocked at the door again and then left. He hasn’t been back since. He’s about made me paranoid and I fear seeing a white Toyota extended cab pick up truck. I’m almost ready to mail the darn form in just out of spite. I’ve never mailed in census forms before and I live in a rural area so I never expected to see them. I certainly didn’t expect to be harassed.
You have a lot more faith in the DC mafia than I do- I'm sure that they are going to jigger the results to favor their agenda, no matter what care honest working folks like yourself take to get it right.
You gave the only answer they need.
No she wanted to ask if anyone lived next door.
That's what happened to me. I sent my form in with only the number of people in the house and "American" as race. When they came to the door I went out prepared to defend my answers but all they wanted to know was if I had seen the neighbor lately.
Amazing... fed gov does not fund anything, taxpayers... you and I do!
