Calderon urges U.S. to reinstate assault weapons ban. (from my cold dead hands!)

In a speech to a joint session of Congress, Calderon described efforts to fight organized crime in Mexico, where 23,000 people have been killed in drug violence since he came to power in late 2006 and launched an army offensive.

Washington is also aiding Mexico's battle against drug gangs with a 2007 pledge of $1.4 billion for equipment and police training to help fight the cartels that ship some $40 billion worth of illegal drugs north each year.

"There is one issue where Mexico needs your cooperation. And that is stopping the flow of assault weapons and other deadly arms across the border," Calderon said to a standing ovation from U.S. lawmakers.

Calderon said the increase in violence in Mexico had coincided with the 2004 lifting of a U.S. assault weapons ban.

The 10-year ban on the sale of assault weapons to civilians expired without being extended by Congress. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has said the administration favors reinstituting the ban, though guns rights groups oppose it.

Calderon said he respects Americans' Second Amendment right to bear arms but said many of the guns are getting into the hands of criminals.

"I would ask Congress to help us, with respect, and to understand how important it is for us that you enforce current laws to stem the supply of these weapons to criminals and consider reinstating the assault weapons ban," he said.

"It was inappropriate for President Calderon to lecture Americans on our own state and federal laws," said Senator John Cornyn, a member of the Republican leadership. "Moreover, the Second Amendment is not a subject open for diplomatic negotiation, with Mexico or any other nation."

What does 0bama stand to gain from surrendering to Mexico? What was W’s motivation? Clinton’s? Bush I? Then tere is Reagan’s amnesty

The Clinton and Zero it is pretty simple. Bring in a 3rd world population and you have yourself voters looking to DC for money. I think Reagan was fooled with the idea that there would an amnesty in exchange for enforcement which never happened. Bush I was a chamber of commerce Republican who loves illegals for the cheap labor. Bush II bought into the Rovian lie that he should push amnesty to secure the Latino vote.

No flash suppressor, no bayonet lug, no adjustable stock ... can't tell about the magazine capacity -- but from here in the People's Republic -- that doesn't look like an "assault weapon".

I have a People's Republic approved perfectly legal "not-an-assault-rifle" that looks scarier.

“Calderon said he respects Americans’ Second Amendment right to bear arms “
**lol...sure he does.***

From the TEXAS declaration of Independence from Mexico..

“It (Mexico) has demanded us to surrender up our arms, which are essential to our defense, the rightful property of free men, and formidable only to tyrannical governments.”

Those all seem pretty shallow, given that almost all the rest of us see a serious threat.

I wonder if the reasons run deeper than that. I don’t think this sort of long-term slow invasion has a historical precedent.

“Calderon said the increase in violence in Mexico had coincided with the 2004 lifting of a U.S. assault weapons ban.”

Bullsh!t. The ban on flash suppressors, and the repeal thereof, had
NOTHING to do with Mexican crime. For all the hype about the “ban” (on all sides), the weapons in question remained entirely available save for one cosmetic part which has absolutely no effect on criminal use.

Treason it is.

The word doesn't even cross their minds. They alienated themselves from America a long time ago.

So their sympathies and loyalties lie with anyone but Americans, and their whole mission in life is to drag the country down to its knees, repopulate it with people hostile to us (gotta keep us in check, ya know), and gut the nation of any of its power.

Mexico is an enemy nation. Siding with the enemy is....treason.

I think I’ll write my Congressmen and urge a declaration of war on Mexico. This is an insult and should not be borne.

Yes. The Japanese had no interest in invading our homeland because they knew a weapon would be firing at them “behind every blade of grass.”

The gun-grabbers in mexico are clearly supporting the Stalinists in Democrat City.

F ‘em.

I demand that Arizona immediately build a fence along its southern border to stop all those illegal “weapons” from emigrating to Mexico, where they cause so many problems.

Good fences make good neighbors! Always and everywhere!

We should thank Calderoni for reminding us of that!

” Mexico is an enemy nation. Siding with the enemy is....treason. “

Calderon has made it clear that his narco-terrorist country is an enemy of the United States.

Obama sided with Calderon, which makes Obama an enemy of the United States.

No rocket science here.

You can’t ‘ban’ what we already have. You can try to confiscate, but there is a big ass difference between stopping someone from ‘getting’ versus taking from someone who has loaded what they got. Try it fools.
