CA Senate Race: Fiorina Up Big? (Hints Fiorina Rocketing FTW)
Weekly Standard ^ | May 24, 2010 | Daniel Halper

Can this be for real? From Carly Fiorina's Twitter feed:

@CarlyforCA Breaking news: Fiorina 46%, Campbell 23%, DeVore 14% according to new Survey USA poll. Proof that hard work pays off!

This, I'm told by the Fiorina campaign, was just reported on television on L.A. The last SurveyUSA poll showed Fiorina trailing Campbell 35% to 24%, with DeVore in third at 15%. So, if true, this new poll would represent a huge swing--such a huge swing that I'm curious to see the actual poll.

BTW I have been for DeVore from the beginning. I have given the guy $ and have, through word of mouth, campaigned for him.

Fiorina will be the next senator of Ca and I will vote, campaign and send her $ so the witch Boxer (cancer) is destroyed before this great county goes beyond the point of return.

The ‘I will wait for a conservative’ crowd, IMHO is the reason we had 60 far left socialist senator, a house full of rats and the POTUS that is the most liberal, socialist evil thing ever to call itself Mr president.

That gave us the health care bill from hell. That was the biggest thing the government has done in 50 years. If nothing else happens in this evil administration Barry H will go down in history for that single act and the country we both love will be forever changed for the far far worse.

I never got into the absentee thing. I’m not sure why. Other family members do it each election.

I will be voting for Chuck, so my conscience isn’t clear yet, but I hope to get there. ;-)

Glad to hear your thoughts are similar.

A fact of life is that CA Republicans nearly alway nominate the wrong candidate, and then the voters go Democrat in the fall. It’s old hat really ever since Bruce Hershenson lost the 1992 general election.

Actually, I meant that the ‘leak’ of anticipated results was in the nature of a push poll and creating the ‘predicted’ result, as the last news I had was that DeVore was actually (slowly) gaining. I had not heard about the Palin endorsement, which probably has had the dramatic results found in the poll.

As one of the fools who voted for Ahnuld’s so-called electability instead of McClintock’s competence & conservatism, I understand the ambivalence many FReepers have about this poll. However, nobody but Campbell seems to like Campbell, freeing DeVore from being “just a vote for the RINO.” Sometimes voting your conscience is the right thing to do.

Just saying... you have no idea what you are talking about. I really, really wish people who talk about FioRINO’s disastrous reign at HP would know some facts first.

I hear what you are saying. But, this is a question of perspective. Your perspective is that of a disgruntled employee. You know those folks, the ones who can run the company if only all of the incompetents and boobs would just listen.

HP was an excellent company about to disappear into history. It had an entrenched management and an entrenched corporate culture that wasn't consistent with what was needed to survive.

They hired Carly to be the "hatchet" person and she did the job. When it was done, they let her go. This is the way with companies in crisis. Someone is going to be the horses ass.

But, because, you just don't see things that way, you see things as those of someone who has a grievance and a longing for the way things were, you have made it personal and taken that and applied it to someone with all sorts of wild accusations and fury that are perfectly real to you but only represent a small portion of what was really happening.

The old HP family interests are the source of much of the invective you are spewing and they were incensed that HP had outgrown its family ownership. Carly was the lighting rod for this and the Board discarded her once this battle was won.

The ants cannot see what the elephants are upto. They just bitch because lots get stepped on when they fight.

I have seen folks on here call posters on FR.. RINO's.. thats ignorant just as it is ignorant to class Fiorina with Snowe and Collins.

She is not a DeMint class conservative. I have heard her compared to Liddy Dole which I think is apt. She won't be perfect, but much better than Scott Brown or Snowe or Collins.

You have to win what you can. But, some only wish for what cannot be.

I wish you were right and Campbell was in single-digits in all the polls, but unfortunately he’s been in the lead in most of them and could still win the nomination.

I think that the Palin endorsement, combined with the Fiorina ad blitz, is responsible for Fiorina’s surge. I don’t know if she’s really up by that much, though.

Bill Hewlett – son of co-founder Walter Hewlett:

“I know a little bit about Carly Fiorina, having watched her almost destroy the company my grandfather founded. So, allow me to disillusion you of a few of your stated reasons for supporting her,” Packard wrote.

“Most business commentators consider Fiorina’s tenure at HP to be a disaster,” Packard continued. “The stock price dropped by 50% only to rally 10% on the announcement of her firing. She fired 28,000 people before she herself was fired, departing with the 21 million dollar golden parachute that is financing her campaign.”

Here's the thing. Carly didn't exactly "ran HP into the ground." She made some moves that weren't popular with the HP heirs and shareholders and got crucified for it. But what she did was put the company on a stronger foundation for the long-term by making painful choices.

Prior to becoming chair of HP, she was executive VP of AT & T. So this woman has a reasonably solid business background although some of her decisions were controversial. But remember: She did this in the private sector. I'd rather support someone who "failed" in the private sector than someone who displayed incompetence as a public elected official.

DeVore would have had a chance if the Republican “business as usual” traitors would have backed a real conservative for a change.

DeVore has been running for a year now. If you can't attract support in a year, then the gig is up. The poor guy has been advertising on billboards, for crying out loud. Has he ever heard of the internet, Facebook, and Twitter?

I’m not attacking Fiorina’s performance at HP. That’s not the point.
I’m telling all you guys who think she’s going to coast to victory how Boxer is going to portray her.
And I believe that it will work.
I’ll still vote for Fiorina if she gets the nomination.
However, most Californians WILL NOT.
Especially in the current climate.

The problem is US E3.

Conservatives are slow to move until forced. The earliest Progressives knew conservatives to be their primary adversary, and coined a pejorative for the most extreme of us: reactionaries. It's not far from the truth since we really want to be left alone. We tend to be reactive.

Being reactive, it takes a palpable threat to get us off the dime. The Campbell-Fiorina sapping of conservative votes is that sort of threat. We know Fiorino is a statist and has shown poor judgment so we now want DeVore.

We pray it is not too late. We urge Californians to remember what fear got us in the past and vote only for a real conservative, not the RINO, not the Statist.

Vote for the most conservative choice and never a Schwarzeneggar type ever again.

Go Devore Go.
Defeat the Statist drumbeat that wants you to give up.
Never, never, never give up!

Have you heard any criticism of Fiorina from the left?
They’re keeping their mouths shut and their powder dry.
This much silence from the Democrats should be eerie.
They’re going to wait until the day after Fiorina is nominated, and then unload on her, and it will be over.

We’ll suddenly hear a lot more about those 28,000 people who lost their jobs under Fiorina, and how she lost her job.
Seriously people. Pull your heads out of your asses.
The problem with Republicans is they see the words “business leader” and ‘CEO’ and they cream their pants. “How could we lose!” they proclaim.
Remember PA-12? Republicans were going to take Murtha’s seat.
Just like CA, PA-12 is 2 to 1 Democrat to Republican. All the Democrats need is a credible attack on the Republican that works with Democrat voters. And they found it with Burns. You know what it was?

They said he was a job-killing Corporate CEO. Hmmmmmm.
Republicans will never learn.

Okay, if that doesn’t give you pause, how about this?
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2521074/posts

I’ll vote for her if I have to in the general. But I won’t “support” her (financially or otherwise) I’ll be bringing a barf bag into the voting booth with me.

BUT... I will NOT be voting for her in the primary! I won’t vote FOR her, I will vote AGAINST Boxer. That’s all I can promise.

What “hits”?
- — - - -
The LA Times published a hit piece accusing DeVore of padding his resume. He hasn’t. And they accused him of pissing off Duncan Hunter by taking credit for a project they were involved in that resulted in the “Arrow” missile.
Duncan Hunter is now endorsing Chuck. And let’s be real, if you had any role in the development of a missile that protects Israel, would you hide that involvement when running for public office?

Another piece accused Chuck of using public funds to finance his campaign. Bogus again. A couple of part time state employees were donating their services, a practice not uncommon. The complaining non-profit shares an address with Carly for California.

Add to that all the blog posts about Chuck being mean and nasty to Gov. Palin. Yes, some supporters were upset initially, more surprised than upset, but Chuck has not said anything against Gov.Palin. Most DeVore supporters also support Gov. Palin or are likely to if she runs.

Based on the “ethics” complaint by the non-profit sharing an address with Carly for California, I would not be surprised to find this poll as one which is trying to change the vote, rather than one than reflects an actual change that has occurred.

99.9% of FR stalking claims are false.

Hey there, Syncro. The proof of that here is that I was posting on this thread (because the subject is of great interest and importance) prior to my offensive post to sjb.

It was thoughtless, stupid and wrong, but not even close to 'stalking.' One of the worst things about what I did was that it gave ammunition for a whole host of ludicrous false charges from an obsessed few. The best thing is that I will never forget again not to post to him.

The vast majority of freepers are good people interested in conservative politics and liberty, living full and productive lives, and would never waste their valuable time following others around or keeping track of what people post where in order to "get them" some time in the future. There are only a handful of those kinds of people around here, and it's pretty clear who they are.

In the end, that kind of bad behavior outs itself and no one takes the offenders seriously. The vast majority wins out in the end.
