HARTFORD, Conn.

Connecticut elections officials are investigating whether Weston businessman Peter Schiff violated state laws by using out-of-state workers to collect signatures to petition his way onto the Republican primary ballot for U.S. Senate.

In a complain obtained Monday by The Associated Press, James Bancroft, who said he was a founding member of the Hartford tea party group, claimed he was approached by a Schiff supporter outside a store in Newington last week and asked to sign a petition. Bancroft said he struck up a conversation with the worker, who said he was from Montana. Bancroft filed the complaint with the State Elections Enforcement Commission on Friday.

You pick and choose what regards ‘legislating morality’ and then try to force your version of it on others. Laws against murder are ‘legislating morality’ so I guess you are against them too?

For you ‘liberty’ means you can only legislate something if I deem it not to be ‘morality’. That is the tyranny that every libertarian wants to inflict upon the people.

Ron Paul now wants to make it so a behavior (homosexuality) has Constitutional protection whereas there is nothing in the Constitution that claims so, and in doing so it would infringe upon the liberty of American citizen.

Paul and his movement have nothing to do with liberty. They only seek to pervert it.

That I really have nothing much to say your big government RINOsm.

I simply laugh at you, like I do at those on the left, who feel they can legislate my actions in any way.

The left wants to legislate how I spend my money, RINOS like yourself how I live my life. I simply don’t have time for people like you

We all have seen the mindless left-wing worship of Obama and just same we also have the mindless worship of Paul.

You claim that you laugh at those who want to legislate but here you are trying to push your political agenda. Get real.

Go worship your pervert God Paul with his blame America rhetoric and anti-liberty fascist purity.

How was your service in Nam - Blumie?

Oh man, I disagree with Race on Schiff but insulting him, especially as regards his military service was just dumb of you.

May God have pity on your soul.

The AP is picking up the story [...]

It's already out. My socialist (Democratic Socialist, actually) colleague in Maryland was already cheering you on (not by name) and gloating. I didn't realize it was you 'til now.

Nice try there buddy

To be perfectly honest, I could care less about the government legislating ANY type of morality.

Morality is taught in the home. I know homosexuality is wrong because I have a strong family with a mother and father that taught me right from wrong. I don’t need the government to tell me its wrong

I know abortion is wrong, because I have strong parents who taught me right from wrong. I don’t need the government to tell me its wrong.

I know taking drugs, or engaging in prostitution are wrong, because I was taught by my mother and father that its wrong.

Morals are taught in the home, not from Washington DC, or my state house.

I simply do not have time for a government that focuses on “morality,” in any way.

Morality is also expressed in society. All law is morality. For the Founders of this nation morality was paramount to what they fought for.

To tell people to keep their morality behind closed doors as libertarians do is morally wrong.

People have a right to protect the unborn, to condemn certain behavior in public, to defend their homes and their nation, etc...

The Paul movement is now taking the side of multiple left-wing causes... forcing homsexuality as being protected, condemning this nation’s foreign policy and morally defending our enemies, and in the legal murder of babies as well.

The Paul movement is anti-liberty in regards to life, national security, and on the right to association and the right to representation.

Peter Schiff is a guy quoted over and over in the book Meltdown by Thomas E. Woods. Seems he was helping Libertarian Republicans campaigns, especially Ron Paul in 2008 with economic advise as he is a businessman. The book claims he foresaw the economic meltdown of 2007-08. He, like Ron Paul, is a fan of Austrian school of economics. Seems Schiff has wanted to run for Congress for sometime.

So thanks to his connections to Ron Paul, Thomas E. Woods, and other Libertarian Republicans he formed a cult following from them and the Alex Jones crowd. The Paulbots fueled his run for congress.

Why Connecticut? No idea. Put his hat in the ring when Chris Dodd bowed out. But he has no chance to win there. You knew the Paulbots work out better in Texas and Kentucky.

So Schiff has become an after thought till now. Linda McMahon has become the de facto GOP winner after Rob Simmons suspended his campaign, but left his name on the ballot.

Peter Schiff, had failed to reach 15% of Republican support and was collecting petitions to gain placement on the primary ballot. And now this as the petitions are being investigated.

SCHIFF invests in America’s economic competitors ONLY
NOT A DIME in the USA
how is that smart??

It's called making the best returns on one's investments. Why should he subsidize uncompetitive businesses?

If an American business wants investment, then it should be superior to competition, not expect to be propped up with handouts. If it's a superior investment, do you think he would not put his money there?

Pushing "MEDIOCRITY FOR AMERICA!" gets us nowhere.

We sometimes disagree on micro politics but have always been on the same page as conservatives.

I can only hope we can shake up this state (as unlikely as it my seem) and bring it into reality.

Unsustainable is an understatement,as it is we are solely lacking representation at the Federal level, if this continues our children and grandchildren will be as bankrupt as any living child in a third world country

All the RINO’s heros laughed at peter and its on video when he was the only one who was dead accurate about what was about to occur.

None of these RINOs’ heros had a damned thing to say at the time and like kudlow, laffer, stein, and the rest of them, all laughed at Peter and were proven to be nothing more than shills and hacks.

I would take either President Bush or Governor Huckabee over Ron Paul anyday. Though there are issues that Paul beats Bush and Huck on in my book, Paul is anti-liberty on the things where it counts most.

Exactly. I’m sick of the moral crusaders who are big govt statists in their own right and would vote for an american bversion of the taliban if given the choice and then have the gall to call themselves defenders of liberty.

Sorry, I voted for Dole, GWB 2000, 2004, and McCain.

I definately ready to vote for a guy like Ron Paul and change things up. Just because the guy may be kooky on a few issues does not negate the fact to me that he is excellent on 8 others.

You’re right. See the post below with the link to youtube (which I hadn’t previously seen) He’s a pro-abort. Too bad. One of the best economic minds out there.

Single issue voters are a plague. What good is having a pro-life person in office if he or she is voting to bankrupt you and your kids for generations to come?
