Everyone should be aware of the tool in Firefox called the WOT (Web of Trust). This is a tool that Firefox users can download to rate websites as safe or warn people if a website is malicious.

This is a great tool to promote Conservative websites, such as Free Republic.

The liberals, such as DU use this tool to rate down sites and get them blocked by search engines. We should try to counter this. It is also a good way to have other resources rated.

If you use Firefox, download it and give it a try. I recommend rating FR first and adding positive comments. Many liberals have attacked the site's reputation and we need to counteract that.

I don't use FF, but I second the suggestion for those that do. It appears as if The Left is always out ahead with this stuff. The good news is that when The Right hits back, we hit way harder.

One big area where Free Republic users should "tag" for Free Republic -- is -- OpenDNS. They are a free DNS service (you might consider using it yourself), and they will block advertising/tracking sites, phishing sites, malware sites, and all sorts of other kinds of websites. [What is a DNS service?]

OpenDNS "tags" difference sites on the Internet in categories, and then you can configure this free service to block those kinds of sites or not.

One thing that I noticed for "Free Republic" is that someone is trying to get this site tagged as a "Hate/Discrimination" site.

There are five categories that it's currently being "tagged" for ...

It's already been accepted and "approved" for "News/Media" and "Forums/Message Board". It's still awaiting votes by the "membership" (and that is free membership) for those other categories of (1) Chat, (2) Hate/Discrimination, and (3) Politics.

Now what this means if it's accepted and approved for any of those categories all the other "OpenDNS users" can configure their own computers and companies they work for or schools or whatever to accept or reject these categories.

If they want to block all "Forums/Message Boards" for their kids at home (for example) they can make it so that OpenDNS will not load anything that is a Forum/Message Board so that their kids can't access anything like that on the Internet.

And so it goes for all the different categories and you can configure it any way you want for about 55 categories.

Thus, if someone has it configured that they want all "Hate/Discrimination" sites blocked -- and if Free Republic gets classified as that -- then no one will be able to access this (for example, a business or a school or many different families for anyone in the family).

Anyway, you should join up for the free membership, then vote on Free Republic not being a "Hate/Discrimination" site.

OpenDNS is the biggest DNS service out there on the Internet (as far as I'm aware of) and so this vote is significant here ...

The webpage where you vote on this (but you have to join as a free member first) is at ...

WOT has a version of their tool for Firefox, Chrome and IE.

More info here.

To my knowledge, WOT cannot be used as a tool to block sites from search engines.

I use both Safari and Firefox—Safari mostly. However, when I get a pop up telling me there’s an upgrade to Firefox, I always download it.

There is nothing in the tool bar called Web of Trust........

..personally, I'd be very careful signing up for something that may limit your abilities to go anywhere on the internet....as your capabilities exist today. FRee Republic has grown over the years through it's rep and word of mouth, and the public's constant search for the truth and not buy search engines...giving libtards a site where they can rate sites is just dandy, it makes them feel in charge....they will never be informed, the way people are here. Just my opinion

Thanks, as this particular one (i.e., OpenDNS) is popular and it affects not just browsers, but the entire connection being blocked...

And, by the way, I do use OpenDNS, as it’s very effective for malware, phishing and porn and other kinds of sites that you don’t want any connection to your computers at home. It’s just that Free Republic shouldn’t be in “that particular category” ... :-)

You were saying ...

..personally, I'd be very careful signing up for something that may limit your abilities to go anywhere on the internet....as your capabilities exist today.

It's important to note that OpenDNS (as I've mentioned here) is one service of many services that everyone has to use ... no matter what... (i.e., you have to use a DNS server).

By using OpenDNS, however, you "take control" of your own "service" and don't allow the ISP to control that for you. That's an important thing to remember.

Keep in mind here -- that no matter what you think about OpenDNS -- you have to use a DNS server, no matter what. Most people just use the one that they get from their ISP.

With OpenDNS, however, you are the one who gets to determine what you want to do with your DNS service -- instead of letting your ISP do it for you (and make the decisions for you).

That's worthwhile all by itself ... :-)
