Nevada Democrats today re-launched their version of GOP senate candidate Sharron Angle’s old campaign website.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s campaign yanked the website over the weekend after Angle’s lawyers sent a cease and desist letter, claiming Reid abused “proprietary materials” from Angle’s old site.
This afternoon, however, the Nevada Democratic Party put the site back up, claiming protection under the First Amendment.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the Reid campaign decided to temporarily remove the website in question while we investigated their allegations,” the Reid campaign said in a press release this afternoon. “Well, the phony legal threats and the feigned indignation are over — and we're not going to let Sharron Angle retroactively censor Sharron Angle.

If this is how Reid want to play it, I hope Angle uncovers every skeleton in the closet and takes out to shine. This is beyond despicable, go after him and his stupid son. Bury them in their mistakes and crap.
He is going to find out what copyrigth law is since they already sent a cease and desist letter. Next step is for them to sue. There are no first amendment rights as far as copyright goes.
If just one person who wrote the phony site trying to reach Sharon Angle’s team got a misleading response from a Reid shill, why I do believe that would be fraud and identity theft.

Harry Reid would hold his own in a battle of wits with a bowl of corn flacks. Harry and his son should be in prison for life for all the criminal things they have done to Nevada.

I don't see the problem. They now have a disclaimer at the top of the page, and the volunteer/register option has been removed.

Of all the potential GOP candidates in Nevada, Angle has the least appeal among "independent" voters.
She's said some things that would make me wonder about her fitness...not because I disagree with her, but because I wouldn't SAY THEM PUBLICLY if I was running for national office.
Maybe she's just right on the issues and a little dumb. Time will tell.
However, anyone who thinks this is a shoe-in for the GOP is smoking crack.

Maybe Harry can pass the Disclose Act in the Senate just to make sure everyone shuts up but the left under the threat of penalties.

Not identity theft, but copyright and trademark infringement, assuming of course the Angle camp was smart enough to copyright and trademark their relevant sections. The federal identity theft statutes deal primarily with the unauthorized transfer or duplication of a "means of identification of another person". That isn't this.
Unfortunately, even with the appropriate copyrights, the Courts have given WIDE birth with respect to political satire and parody. Unless there are some violations of campaign finance laws - and that's possible as they're wildly complicated (and I'm not very familiar with them), then Angle probably doesn't have a very strong legal case against Reid, or whomever did it.
