LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas Metro police on Monday identified the three officers who shot and killed an armed man outside a Costco store in Summerlin.

“Relative to their qualifications the pay isn’t crappy at all.”

That was kind of my point, sorry I wasn’t more clear. I used to have a lot of respect for cops. Used to, past tense.

Then whose job is it to enforce the law?

It's EVERYONE'S job. Cops are supposed to be people like us, that we just pay to do what we all should do but don't have time.

They are certainly NOT a new class of citizen, with different rights and responsibilities than the rest of us. The problem is that they increasing think and act like they are.

Sure they do; full time hero, faster than a speeding bullet, able to raise more revenue than the IRS, quickest draw in the west. Best at shooting family dogs too!!

You again? I thought you would have provided me with those examples I asked for by now. Or were you just FOS?

That depends on where you are. Some organizations are superbly trained, others, not so much. There are organizations out there that apparently got the cool gear without a lot of the training.

There are few things more dangerous than an heavily armed cop who thinks he’s a trained expert at using those weapons because he spent a couple hours playing with them at the range.

And will tase you in a heartbeat. Any excuse will do. Heck, they don’t even need an excuse.

Did you hear about the bed ridden 86yo on oxygen being tased? El Reno, Oklahoma. They said they felt threatened after she ordered them out of her home. They claim she threatened them with a knife. Mind you she was bed bound. There were no witnesses, since the grandson had already been cuffed and locked in a cruiser.

“The man who was shot was putting a sport drink, taken from a package, into a fanny pack that was also not purchased.”

.
People do things like that all the time at a Costco store. I often see kids eating icecream bars that haven’t yet been paid for, or drinking a bottle of juice. The UPC on the package is all that is necessary at the register.

Lots of chinese at the Costco that I shop at will open packages that shouldn’t be opened because its perishable food, and the store just looks the other way. Even when they abandon frozen food in the canned goods dept.
.

Yeah, I aint gonna play your game. You’ve already displayed that you think cops are better than us mere civilians.

Yeah I read about that tragic incident. Stepped on her oxygen line intentionally. Insane but they are ‘heros’ right???

To put it another way, it is not unreasonable to think that this would have ended very differently if the Costco employee had called the police and said "We have a man in our store who claims he has a concealed handgun license but we're not sure. Could you send somebody over to verify it?" I don't underestimate the ability of police to botch that up as well, but it would have likely produced a much less tense situation than "there's a guy with a gun going berserk in our store!"

This is a post much earlier in the thread. I just wanted to highlight it to point out that there really ought to be a change in the protocol for notifying the police about "a man with a gun." The dispatcher should be required to give more information than that, preferably details of what was seen and why their attention is needed.

Maybe somebody else has pointed this out.

Looking back, I see that the call included information to the effect that Mr. Scott was acting berserk, so that does modify my earlier statement, i.e., apparently that information went out via the dispatcher. It wasn’t just “a man with a gun.”

Yep. Texas is different. It’s funny how friendly and polite people are to each other. And how few muggings and murders we have in the fourth largest city in the nations WHERE PEOPLE ARE PERMITTED TO CARRY AND DEFEND THEIR HOMES! They say a Texan keeps on smiling right up to the point where he cocks the shotgun. Houston didn’t used to be like that. We used to have drive-bys, crack-killings, race killings... things have really settled down.

Speaking of ad hominems, fallacy boy, you're just full of them today! At least when I say Lewinski's an uncredentialed hack with an internet degree I can back that up with fact. Face it. You're just pissed that I exposed your "expert" as a fraud.

Absolute nonsense. I guess those fantasies swimming in your small delusional mind make you seem important, because you have "exposed" or established anything.

some of you people need to drop the attitude that all or even most cops are like this. They aren’t.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sounds like three out of three in this case.

NP. You talk a good game though. Kind of like a politician. Or a lawyer. Hey, did you know why lawyers, politicians and diapers are similar?
