Yamaha Motor Co. said Wednesday it will start selling its "EC-03" electric motorcycle on Sept. 1.
The company projects annual sales of 10 million units of the model, priced at 252,000 yen. The bike is scheduled to be released in Taiwan and Europe begining next year, the company said.
As Honda Motor Co. plans to begin leasing its new electric motorcycle to domestic companies and other entities in December, eco-friendly motorcycles could become widely used.
According to Yamaha, the EC-03 model is powered by lithium-ion batteries and does not emit carbon dioxide. As the size of its body is nearly the same as a 50cc scooter, the model will cater to people with 50cc motorcycle driver's licenses.

I've seen more meat on 10-speeds.
Are you sure what kind of gas do Unicorns pass?
What do motorcycles have to do with Jesus? That makes about as much sense as middle-ages white guys with long hair.
THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS and you have to give it back!? ($599/mo for a 4 year lease)
Are they completely insane?
I had an opportunity to ride an electric motorcycle about two years ago. It was awesome...0 to 60 in like 5 seconds. It was a beast. Wish I could remember the name of it. It was definitely no scooter.
I LOVE the BV500 ! Its very competant. As far as being blown over, thats not how it works.
I too ride both motorcycles and scooters. My Vespa 200gt is definately a machine for pros. Not an easy ride.
I plan to have a 750 in my garage before the year is out.
I have a friend at work who's from India. He's also a motorcyclist. He's telling me about riding in India and what they pay for a new bike. I started flirting with the wild-hair idea of flying there for a couple of weeks, just buying a bike, riding the hell out of it while I'm there, then just giving it to someone there as a parting gift.
Haven't thought it all the way through yet, and right now it's just a half-baked idea, but I smell an adventure in the offing.
Yes that’s true generally. However, when I was 11 I got a Honda Z50A. That was definitely a motorcycle.
We just use the Oxygen scooter here in the neighborhood (north Richland). It is fun to ride and that torque off zero rpm is kind of a different feeling. I was sitting on it talking to a Richland police officer who was interested in it and he didn’t notice I had an expired tab (is current now).
On the kid’s front, the Yamaha TTR-90 is ready to go again after replacing the front tube. The Slime didn’t work this time because the valve stem tore off (no rim lock).
We will head to the Morrow ORV Park now that I replaced the throttle position sensor on the pickup yesterday. We use just a Harbor Freight Tools utility trailer to haul the bikes. I have been refining (modifying) that trailer for the last 10 years.
I can make it down to Pocatello say the end of July to exercise your Roadster so it doesn’t seize up.
Lucky Fart, Do it in a heartbeat.
Loud pipes, do indeed, save lives.
But I never have heard it from any reputable research report.
Tell ya’ what: Why not be real safe, and go around with your horn blaring all the time?
I suppose when a crash is imminent, you open the throttle, instead of using your horn (and maybe brakes - how do those pipes help you when you are braking).
I guess you’ll show me the data that shows how those modern, well-made bikes from Germany and japan are killing their riders with their well-tuned and muffled engine noises? (Crickets...)
Nice!!
