NB - former NV freeper. We lived in NV for 14 years; still have lots of friends there. We didn’t live in Las Vegas, but the media market is such that there’s Vegas and then there’s the rest of Nevada, and in the legislature, Vegas swings the biggest stick of all areas of Nevada, even tho they’re the smallest land mass in the state.
This is another reason I use appendix carry. No worries if bending over.

I work a block away from where this happened. After reading about Scott’s background I don’t believe for a second he pulled his pistol.

In point of fact, ANY time you have contact with a LEO in the state of Nevada and you have a CCW, you must present your CCW card to the LEO at any time he asks you for ID.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re carrying at the time.

After reading the account of this incident I hope there is a serious investigation into the police actions. Something smells very bad on this and if it turns out that way, there should be some major jail time.
I have experienced one stop here in my hometown, which doesn't involve Metro (get the hell out of there man!), and the officer was totally professional.
As soon as he saw my permit though, he did (non-verbally) express disappointment that it would not be a felony stop.
I was on my way in about a minute flat.
I ran into a cousin at a restaurant in West Texas one evening. We hugged, and he put is hand right on top of the weapon in my waist band (a little 380 in a belt-clip holster). He patted it twice, then took two very slow steps back. Never said anything about it, but he did put some space between us.
He hasn't spoken to me since.
For my “cow county” LEO former neighbors and friends, they like it when a CCW holder produces the CCW card. It instantly says “Hey, I’ve passed a NCIC check, and if your radio cannot currently function in this area, I’ve just told you there’s no wants or warrants on me.”
The rural guys practically love seeing a CCW card. It means they can take a load off, have a civil conversation (usually about people whizzing down the highway a tad too fast), then get on to talking about fishing, hunting, the rodeo or local county fair, etc.
Las Vegas is a seriously messed up place, top to bottom. It isn’t just the LEO’s in Vegas. The whole place is like another world, where white is black, up is down, and perversion is nominal behavior.
In an admittedly slight defense of the LEO’s in Vegas, the city is a mecca for “dead enders.” There are all manner of hard-assed criminals who, upon being busted somewhere else in the US, think “Hey, I know where we’ll go to hide! Las Vegas!” No kidding, this is the reality. There’s no shortage of some real bad actors that flow into Vegas for fun, profit and escape from other law agencies. Hiding in Vegas is a really poor idea, what with the number of cameras, surveillance & security people, the LVMPD who has a really amped-up SWAT team, etc. But criminals like to go there.
Go figure.

No, I read a lot about this story. I lived in Baton Rouge at the time. He loved disco and John Travolta. It was sad, really.
If I was the family, I'd make SURE that the Costco weasel's name was ALL OVER the Internet...Time for that later. Right now the important thing is to place the weasel's name correctly on the appropriate lawsuit.
There should be 3 lawsuits:
1. Police
2. Costco
3. Weasel
And I say that as someone who is normally against lawsuits.
But this case cries out for them.
The SOB needs to pull a couple of decades in jail along with his cop buddiesAnd the Costco manager for evacuating the store to make it look like people were running in fright from a crazed gunman.
Jittery rookie cops supplied with bad intel.Worse than that. A profound lack of training on the part of MPD officers on the whole subject of "see what's actually there... don't just rely on the 911 hysteria".
They acted like rank amateurs... is that because of the level of training they get?

A very easy answer to this is a DeSantis pocket holster, coupled with a SW 642 snubbie. Baggy shorts, with deep pockets.
This is how I carry in the summer, everywhere, and people are none the wiser.
Immediately accessible if I need it, and doesn’t print or show when leaning over, reaching, etc..
To each their own, though...personally, IMHO, a fanny bag/belly bag just broadcasts that you’ve got something.
