The developers of an Islamic cultural center that would include a mosque near Ground Zero have rejected Gov. David Paterson's offer to help them find a different site.
Paterson said today the group is apparently committed to building in the proposed site. "I think they would like to stay where they are, and I certainly respect that and I certainly respect them," Paterson said.
But, Paterson said the dialogue would have been useful as the project has ignited nationwide debate over freedom of religion and anger over the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.. "Having said that, how much more foresighted would it have been if the Imam who is the developer of the project had been willing to hear what we are actually talking about?"
The planned $100 million center would be built two blocks from the World Trade Center site, where nearly 2,800 people died when Islamic extremists flew jets into the twin towers. The project is headed by Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, a Muslim cleric who has worked to improve relations between Islam and the West.

You are right, they have to bring the duilding permit process all over again.Con Ed can’t sell the building without a review from the NEW York Public Service Commission, unless that was already done years ago.

I hop you are correct. The economy is imploding at a faster rate. I can see union men on camera saying they have to feed their family. Unions put the Imam Obama in power to destroy America.
They will bring in scab mexicans or maybe palestinians.
Oh, I don’t know. I think it could be a good thing. It’s an in your face, visible, open, bleeding wound. It will cause confrontation and violence. People are going to die. But better to see the enemy than have him in the shadows.

The fact that Anita Dunn was on TV yesterday advocating the position of the Muslim developer shows just what the White House's position is.
She is the wife of main White House counsel Bob Bauer.
IF there is a single insurance company anywhere in the world that is willing to insure the construction of this building, they are nuts.
It will be destroyed over & over again, IMO.

I never thought I’d say this, but Patterson has been showing Obama and Bloomberg what a leader does.
I believe this mosque is meant as a middle finger and a symbol of conquest, but if the organizers were just “trying to build bridges” the way to handle it would be what Patterson is doing: Work for calm, get them to listen to reason and get the thing moved. Note that lecturing the widows of dead firemen about their unAmerican attitudes is not on the list.
He’s a tool and NY needs a new governor, but on this thing he’s at least on the right side. While Obama and Bloomberg lecture the 9/11 families about their unAmerican attitudes, Paterson’s trying to actually move the thing.
