Four people died and a policeman was seriously wounded in a town in southwestern Germany on Sunday, after an explosion in an apartment building and a shooting in the neighboring hospital that authorities believe are linked, a prosecutor said.
Two people were found dead in an apartment building that burst into flames after an explosion Sunday afternoon, Loerrach prosecutor Dieter Inhofer told ZDF public television.
Another woman, allegedly armed with a weapon, was seen running from the blast into the neighboring St. Elisabeth hospital, where she reportedly opened fire, killing a member of the hospital staff, Inhofer said.
The woman then turned her gun on officers responding to the shooting and was killed in an exchange of gunfire, Inhofer said. One police officer was seriously wounded, Inhofer said, but authorities believe there were no other victims in the hospital.
"There was a very heavy exchange of gunfire in the hospital that had the potential to be very dangerous, but based on what we know right now ... no one else was injured," Inhofer said.
Police in the town of Loerrach, near the Swiss and French borders, are investigating. Authorities are still searching for a motive for the shooting.
Since this is clearly the fault of the gun(s) used, they are going to have to hand back to everyone all the guns they have confiscated over the years and then re-confiscate them, in order to make sure that guns are never ever able to commit such an atrocity again. Germany’s gun laws just aren’t strict enough.
of interest.
Doing Allah’s bidding, perhaps?
Sure is of interest. At the link, there is a photo of German police standing guard outside the apartment concerned. One cannot exactly tell, but it looks like a nice place in a row of elegant buildings. Certainly, it does not look down and out.
Germany = Lutherans/and or those evil Catholics. Definitely a Christian operation. It’s probably both. Those Catholics are retaliating against the Pope assassination in England.
there’s only one group of people that are really into bombs these days...
Yes, I agree, that report is visibly censored. But it was the best I could get to post up at that time. The German police may have asked them to hold back details.
Now a BBC report has come out and says that the body of a man and a child were found in the apartment.

Loerrach, Germany - A shooting rampage that began in an apartment block and continued in a hospital in Germany ended Sunday with four people dead, including the female assailant, police said.
Witnesses first heard an explosion, followed by shots and cries for help in the apartments. The bodies of a middle-aged man and a small girl were later found there. A prosecutor said it was assumed both those victims were somehow linked to the assailant.
Firefighters in Loerrach, a German town just over the border from the Swiss city of Basle, rushed to the scene, but withdrew when they saw the woman with an automatic rifle or sub-machine-gun.
She then crossed the street to a hospital where she shot dead a male attendant.
Inside the St Elisabeth Catholic maternity and children’s hospital, there were two shootouts with police. Three patients and an off-duty policemen were seriously wounded before police shot the assailant dead.
A witness, Siegfried Schmitz, told Germany’s N-TV news television, “I saw her deliberately running into the gynaecology ward.”
He described her as “a ginger (haired) woman in dark pants.” She had fired at people as she ran across the street.
Police were still piecing together what happened in the sudden flurry of violence and were waiting to formally identify the victims. The gunwoman’s motive remained unclear.
There was pandemonium and dread in the clinic as police with automatic weapons fanned out through sick wards and evacuated every patient. Hundreds of heavily armed police poured into the town, population 55,000, to secure it.
The off-duty policeman suffered a gunshot through his knee but was later taken off the critical list.
Senior prosecutor Dieter Inhofer said police assumed the man and child who were later found dead in the apartment block were not random victims but somehow personally connected to the assailant.
A boy told a local radio station, Radio Regenbogen, there had been a fire in the entrance area of the apartment block with smoke in the stairwell, and frightened residents in neighbouring apartments had cried out for help as the shooting continued for several minutes.
Patients at the hospital were traumatized and needed counselling, emergency services said.
The shooter was a woman, armed with a shotgun, and alleged to have killed a child. All those three things together would make it unusual for an Islamic woman - but who knows?
Many thanks for those pics. It does look like an up market area, does it not?

Perhaps someone from the Brady Bunch can fill us in.
Bombs... women... shootout...Baider/Meinhoff. Probably not but the 70’s sure was intense over there.
That was my guess. Some holdover Communist splinter group having a last hurrah.
I like the way they dress the nurses in Germany. In America it’s like a free for all.
So, maybe not a Muslim jihadi? Possibly a radical leftist?
Ever since 9-11 I've been holding my breath, waiting for the Red-Green (Leftist-Islamist) alliance to emerge in violent form.
Of course it's already been there in borderline violent form: E.g. Code Pink flying supplies to Jihadis in Fallujah, ISM and Rachel "Pancake" Corrie helping Hamas keep arms smuggling tunnels into Gaza open, leftists joining Jihadis in ambushing and beating Israelis inspecting that embargo breaking ship from Turkey, etc, etc.
But I keep thinking that, sooner or later, leftists are going to want to get more fully into the shooting and bombing side of the game.
