(CNN) - Americans are divided over whether President Barack Obama or his predecessor has performed better in the White House, according to a new national poll.

And a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday also indicates in the battle for Congress, Republicans hold large advantages over the Democrats among independents, men and blue-collar whites. The poll also indicates that Republicans are much more enthusiastic than Democrats to vote.

By 47 to 45 percent, Americans say Obama is a better president than George W. Bush. But that two point margin is down from a 23 point advantage one year ago.

Obama is going to have to run against his own record in 2012. By then, bringing up Bush will be a negative for Obama and a gain for the opponent.

Excluding blacks, who support Obama because he is black, most Americans favor Bush over Obama. I also favor being pissed on (GM bailout anyone?) to being crapped on (Obamacare, big tax increases).

But good grief, let’s do better than either of these guys!

By a 50 to 42 percent margin, the public says that Obama has done a better job than Sen. John McCain would have done if he had won. And by a 10-point margin, Americans also say that Joe Biden has done a better job than Sarah Palin would have done as vice president," adds Holland.

What a bunch of crap. They are making assumptions. They can't possible 'know' that. Obama has been way worse than any of us thought and that includes a lot of the jerks that actually voted for him. I doubt McCain would have been worse at this point and Biden isn't fit to carry Palin's lipstick.

Haven’t you noticed? They aren’t blaming Bush nearly as often these days.

Au contraire. This from a couple of days ago:

“Days before the release of a key jobs report, Obama said most of the job losses his administration gets blamed for occurred before “any of my economic plans were put into place,” and that the country is still “experiencing the hangover from the misguided policies” of the last decade.”

Habits are very hard to break.

I'd love to see the legitimate numbers on this question.

Honor over dishonor? Patriotism over hatred of country? Strength over weakness? Gentleman over punk?

The real numbers must be astounding.

Of course Bush was and is better than Obama! That does not mean that I want him back or think that he had a large part in the destruction of the Republican brand.

I love that picture but I’ve been looking for another one that I saw a few weeks ago. It was a two-part picture showing W in his flight suit, standing in front of a jet. The caption was something about how he could operate the jet but he was considered a moron. The other part of the photo showed Obummer trying to get an umbrella through a gate.

Anybody else see it and did they save it?

Pretty amazing stuff. Considering Obama get 95% support from blacks alone, you can bet Bush is crushing him with likely voters.

Bush would actually win head to head. Unreal!

They both suck. Bush sucked less. Carter sucked worse, but I’m not sure about that anymore.

But that two point margin is down from a 23 point advantage one year ago.

They thought the grass was greener on the other side, but the other side was an oozing, bubbling hell pit of raw sewerage.

For the Communist News Network (CNN) to even suggest this means that 0bama is hated even by his cronies.

By 2012, Bush will be ahead of Obama.

By Nov. 2 Bush will be ahead of 0.

That’s like comparing a good apple to a rotten apple. They are still apples.
