There is only one course of action when appeasement doesn't work:
Engage in more appeasment.
the way you described Chinese military, they seem to have the same perks as our government bodies in DC.

If we surrender Taiwan now maybe they will forgive all those treasury bonds they own.
Is that our 6? Or 666?
We could sell the chicoms hollywood. Trade them for Taiwan.
We should not fear them. But that doesn’t mean be complacent. Obama sold his own grandma out. He would sell his country out just like he already has.
They need to improve their “Engrish.”
We should be worried if they decide to go to war. America will always be strong. We will face great challenges ahead beyond our comprehension. But we will survive.
Gorillaphant.
Agreed. Keeping in mind that it takes 1.5 Billion Chinese to equal the GDP od 200 million (the Japanese), we should keep things in perspective. There are things a responsible country should do before allowing a dog to bite with impunity. When we see the whites of thier fangs, we need to knock thier face in the dirt, hard. Any other action will be misunderstood to be weakness, thus encouraging more of the same. China is not what they perceive themselves to be. They are itching for a place in the world that they are not yet capable of fulfilling.
Ping...You have had your finger on this pulse for a long time, now. I figured you might want to see this.
In the meantime, we have built their industry from foodstuffs to light bulbs to tracked equipment, rather than insist our own government back off ridiculous moving-target standards without any basis in science so we can build our own. When we can't produce the steel to up-armor humvees fast enough, how in the heck are we going to do full-fledged war production? Not to mention the people we'd need to manufacture things. At least 'Rosie's riveters' were farm gals who knew which end of the pail to pour out of.
Computerized robot controlled production is dandy--if you can get the raw materials and rare earths to make things go--and no one EMPs the grid.
We've been dashing around with the back flap open on our industrial union suit for far too long.
I think before the chins would even consider taking on the US they will need to get some experience. I would look for them to pick a fight with one of their neighbors (except Taiwan) to get a win under their belts and build confidence. They realize that the days of throwing bodies at the enemy are over even with a billion people. I don’t think they will go after Taiwan before they chalk up a victory somewhere. Secondly, I think they have doubts about whether or not other countries in the region would stay out of a fight with Taiwan. One on one they could probably take most with exceptions of Japan, S. Korea, Australia and even Taiwan. But if these countries collectively stand up to them the chins would have a real problem on their hands.
Japan better be concerned about China’s military. They are closer than we are.
