Tancredo Ads Go After Both Hickenlooper And Maes
CBS ^ | 10/23/2010 | The Associated Press

American Constitution Party gubernatorial candidate Tom Tancredo has decided no more Mister Nice Guy. He's going after his opponents — Democrat and Republican — with double-barreled ads he hopes will take them out in the waning days of Colorado's gubernatorial campaign.

Tancredo's campaign spent about $60,000 on the ads, which are airing more than a dozen times a day on some rural radio stations and some television stations.

His ad against GOP gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes includes a litany of accusations made over the past few months. Titled, "Dan Maes: Bankrupt," it cites Maes' bankruptcy filing at age 29, one he failed to disclose. It also criticizes Maes for taking $300 from an elderly supporter for his campaign when the supporter had said the money was a gift to help pay Maes' mortgage. The ad also hits Maes for reportedly billing his campaign $44,000 for driving 80,000 miles on the campaign trail.

"Make no mistake: Dan Maes is going to lose this race in a big way because a campaign built on lies, just like a life built on lies, always catches up to you," the narrator intones.

The ad against Democrat John Hickenlooper, dubbed, "Hickenlooper: Out of Touch," disputes the Denver mayor's claim that he created 1,000 jobs. It alleges many of those jobs were taken by illegal immigrants. It also claims Hickenlooper raised taxes by $290 million and still lost 39,000 jobs. Hickenlooper says voters approved the tax increases. He disputes the job figures.

I dunno if highlighting a bankruptcy makes a guy look evil and/or irresponsible to the electorate these days.

I’ll take any even money bet that Tom pulls it out and wins. In fact I think the repubs are going to do better around the country then most people think. But I also think it is going to make very little difference in the size or growth of government. Once entitlement programs are in place they never go away. Quite the contrary, they take on a life of their own and grow. We are in for some bad times no matter who wins.

Given current economic conditions blathering about somebody else's bankruptcy makes you look mentally unstable (at a minimum) and out of touch with reality.

Attacking someone for raising taxes is a whole 'nuther story.

Is the candidate in charge of his advertising or does he have an idiot on the payroll?

I disagree. A bankruptcy still doesn’t set well with many in the general public, especially somebody running for office, it makes them seem (perhaps accurately, perhaps not) irresponsible.

Tancredo has a history of being inflammatory, but he may be tapping into and connecting with, the public’s intense mood of anger at this point in time.

Unless he goes completely over the top and becomes a loose cannon, I think aggressivly going after his opponents may be a good strategy. Time will tell.

Tancredo has the momentum and should win. Dems thought Hickenlooper was sitting in the catbird seat until a few days ago. He may still win bot Tancredo comes on strong.

What will be the redistricting consequences of a Tancredo win? Not good for Dems..

In the Great Recession there are some who view bankruptcy as a moral failing of some kind.

Some, not all, not enough to sway an election one way or the other.

I think it would be much more harmful to be identified as someone who foreclosed on home mortgages.

We are in for bad times, for sure. The public will become disenchanted with Republicans fast than Democrats for sure. That’s why Republicans have to treat the electorate like grownups and tell the truth about how deep a hole we’re in and what the consequences are as well as what needs to be cut. The Libs will scream about it but it has to be done and done early.

Frankly, there's no reason at all that the solution need come out of the hides of Republicans or Conservatives.

We can simply levy the necessary taxes and property confiscations ON THE DEMOCRATS and LIBERALS.

Legislation to do exactly that can be prepared in time for the first session of Congress.

Select the new Speaker, then submit the Bill ~ "0001 ~ a Bill to Balance the Budget and Pay Down the Debt".

After we get it passed we can see what it says ~ and I think it's going to say Democrats gots'ta'pay!

It's pretty sad when the Republican party is getting it's butt whipped by the ACP when the Republican party used to be considered the conservative choice.
