Difficult thoughts on the election

Posted on 11/04/2010 10:52:00 AM PDT by Conservative_Pragmatist

Hey gang-

I am new here. I was looking for Conservative boards to post on during the election and they just weren’t very good. Someone told me about this site so I figured I’d check it out.

I felt compelled to log-up after the Republicans took massive control of the US House this election.

Like most of you I was over-joyed when the Democrats got swept out of Congress. But we have seen how the tea leaves (pun intended) change. The last two cycles the Republicans got waxed, we were losing seats in strong Conservative areas. That cycle is now turned. We’ve picked up key seats in more Liberal areas like Mass, Illinois, Wisconsin, and here in Virginia a very popular Democrat (Boucher) was defeated. Never thought I’d see that, so the message is loud and clear, this nation DOES NOT want big government.

However, it’s easy to think the electorate in the center could swing right back to the other side if the Republicans fail to deliver. Or get this? Even if the Republicans DO deliver!

Personally, I think this election for the Republicans was great. We dominate the house so no far-left initiatives have any chance of ever making it to law. And I was sorta glad we didn’t get the Senate, because now the Democrats still have some culpability and Obama can’t play against the Republican congress in 2012. We are also close enough that if we win the White House in 2012, we could possibly send a complete majority Republican Senate with that person.

So that is GREAT news.

However, WHAT IF Obama decides to compromise with the Republicans? Remember Clinton compromised with the Republicans after 1994 and got some good things done on trade, welfare and the economy took off as well. Clinton was then re-elected as a more popular candidate than when he won in 1992.

Point is, if Clinton had not worked with the Republicans then maybe the country struggles longer and we beat him in 1996, but that wasn’t what was best for our country.

So the struggle I am having is this. Can we afford NOT to work with a Democrat President if it means we can help the USA? If he works WITH our guys, moves to the center, limits government spending and frees up the market and that helps our nation, then it stands a chance he could get re-elected, something I don’t want to see.

But…helping our country now, and the US Republicans now have a chance to help our nation may actually turn out to help the Democrat President.

While I was popping champagne the other night, I am now left with these thoughts and don’t know what to think. Again…for me it’s country first.

Hey, we all had a first day we heard of Free Republic.

New people are born every day. New people get on the internet every day. New people get interested in politics every day. Daily, people change their political views. Daily, new people become adults or start voting.

I believe if the Republicans start hammering away hard and fast, oblabla will be toast in 2012. They need to strip all funding that is going to czars, get massive oil exploration and drilling going, announce the construction of 100 new nuclear power plants. They need to rip the current medical reform up and start over. Reform should be in the form of allowing medical insurance to be sold across state lines, tort reform to kill the ridiculous money being awarded to plaintiffs. Make it faster and easier for medical companies to bring new drugs and new medical treatment technologies to market, if I have 1 year to live I don’t want to be waiting 7 years or more to get that new drug, give it to me now, I am dying anyway.

They also need to investigate a few things. How were the auto dealerships chosen as to who was allowed to stay open and who was closed. Why won’t the Justice department investigate the voter intimidation from 2008? Why does Harry Reid’s son have the job of controlling the voting machines in Nevada? Why did BP allow Obama to force them create a fund that would be managed by the federal government? Isn’t that a legal issue? What did Barney Frank know and when did he know about Frannie and Freddie?

There is no way he will be able to work with the Republicans on these things. But if we allow the RINO’s to make nice with him and the rats across the isle, he could get reelected along with a new rat majority. We need a strong conservative push from this Congress, they have to be bold about it. We need to get power shifted out of Washington and back to the states. This might be our last chance to do it.

Oh, and if Graham and the other limp wristed RINO’s do not change their ways, then it will be of the utmost importance that we all do everything humanly possible to have a Tea Party candidate knock them out at their next election.

Read the words. Learn to see. You are defending a disgustingly evil statist.

Along with other anomalies, it means that the poster is not an American.

I would agree. However, it doesn't mean that I think it proves the poster is not American.

Besides, we have many posters that are not living in this country, nor are Americans.

Oh I see. I saw everything that has been mentioned.

I am avoiding jumping to TOO QUICK a CONCLUSION. Here soon, we will likely have enough information to rate stuning him with our beeber.

What I am defending is Free Republic. I have seen SO MANY threads (especially the past year) where a noob gets called a troll. Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren’t. It takes a little time to make that call, unless the admins discover a known troll.

As a newb, don't his posts have to be approved first?

I’d recomend holding off on the zotting. I know we are all anxious for a good old fashioned zotting of a a live troll, but let’s give Pragmatist a chance. It does seem kind of strange that he hasn’t heard of Freerepublic before. Incidentally, I was “trolling” over on DU the other day and they are psychotic. Every other sentence had a F bomb it and they were happy they purged their party of DINOS.

I've never cared one way the other what a poster's sign up date is. Everyone has a day one.

By his words it takes zero time to determine this guy is a troll.

Laughing so hard I'm gasping for air. IF he...limits spending...frees up the market...

Obama is NOT Bill Clinton. He's not a political animal- he's an ideologue.

What does it mean to log-up and what is a US Republican?

I think you are correct about that.

I just received a 'Mail' from him in which he lamented the fact that his replies to our comments were not showing up.

I think he might be okay.

...but I'm keeping my can of "Troll-B-Gon" close at hand just in case.

;-)
