Another strange occurance at my church tonight (possibly terror related)

I hesitate to write this because I don't want to come off as paranoid. But I figured its worth it to share info just in case there really is something in the planning stages.

Especially after the church masacre last week in Baghdad, I believe that it is highly possible that a similar attack could take place in the US.

Tonight 4 middle-eastern men were seen down our childrens' wing at our church. They were walking briskly and talking in Arabic.

A woman spotted them at the other end of the hall. She tried to catch up to them but they exited into the lobby and by the time she got to it they had disappeared. A few people looked but no one saw them leave the building.

There was no reason for anyone to be down that hallway. There were no children's programs going. It's possible that they could have taken a wrong turn. But it just doesn't feel right.

This is the 3rd incident since last March involving young middle-eastern men. The first one involved them asking odd questions about the size of our services, questions about the children's area, even requesting a layout of the building.

The FBI has been alerted and its been discovered that at least one other church in the area has had a similar incident take place.

I'm writing this here because I think there are alot of FReepers who attend church. I would ask you to inquire whether anything unusual has happened in recent months in your church. Especially if you are a large church. And especially if you are located in the Detroit area.

We must be willing to think about these things (not obsess over them) but reasonably consider the possibility. Thank you.

I work in the Security field. I am convinced that Muslims are biding their time planning a wave of hits on soft targets such as churches, schools etc. Remember Beslan and the horror of the attack on the children there. These attacks are low tech and only require minimal planning such as layout of property and the acquiring of a small amount of weapons/explosives. If I was at your church I would be looking at Security planning especially for your Sunday School/ Children’s Ministry area making sure it is secured from external entry and locked down while the main Service is in progress. Also that there is an escape route and church lock down procedures. Selected armed, trusted church members is not a bad idea but it has to be done in an orderly rostered manner - don’t let anyone in with a gun. CCTV would be a good idea to get pictures of anyone entering your property but that horse may have already bolted.

Obviously you and your Pastor should pray about this - it does not show a lack of faith to be prepared and any thinking in that area should be put away - remember the wise and the foolish virgins!

Blessings

Mel

I agree with everyone - call the authorities. Remember the story of actor James Woods witnessing a dry run on one of his flights before a month before 9/11? Mohammed Atta was one of the guys.

Good point ...

BS. Any Arab Christian interested in church services (or anyone interested thusly) would search out people to talk to and ask when services are, get fliers or schedules and so on.

This is obviously suspicious behavior. Odd that you don’t see that.

In the state of Michigan you are permitted to CCW at church if you have a CCW permit and the permission of the church leadership. If permission is not immediately forthcoming, find a church with more reasonable and realistic leadership. You cannot protect everyone, but you can protect your family.

I didn’t dispute the poster’s word. First off, the poster was not a witness to this astounding “incident” of four men talking in a church hallway, seen by one lady.

Yes “it” can happen anywhere.

And the “it” in this case is exactly what?

We have posts here arming the whole congregation, posting armed guards, walkie talkies everywhere, plans for triage, we even have someone saying to kill them all so we don’t have to have the guards.

And this was a reasonable response to a woman seeing four men?

Less than a year ago, the 'underwear' bomber, intended to explode over Detriot.

Days ago, the bombs on UPS and FedEx planes.

Yet you discount a FReeper's accounts of activities going on in his own church? With witnesses? In SE Michigan? Near Dearborn?

Conclusion? You're an idiot.

No Problem BUMP!

By the way I am serious about criminalizing shariah. As Quix stated, plotting violent overthrow of the government is already illegal. I agree, it fits the definition of criminal sedition.
We need legislation, that clarifies the criminal aspect of following sharia doctrine. Defining it in exactly the way seditious conspiracy is defined in the federal criminal code.

It's a discussion. You seem to take the position that we aren't capable of deciding for ourselves what is or is not appropriate. You have your opinion and are entitled to it. I have mine. Having guns in the vestry might be precisely what is necessary. or perhaps people could have them in the trunks of their cars. The point, I think, is that one cannot be expected to wait for the police/FBI/Army to take action. I prefer to take care of myself and my own, whether at home or in church.

We need to contemplate the "unthinkable" if only to avoid it.

I’d take one into church anyway. My Dad always said “better to bail you out of jail, then to identify you at the Morgue”.
