Another strange occurance at my church tonight (possibly terror related)

I hesitate to write this because I don't want to come off as paranoid. But I figured its worth it to share info just in case there really is something in the planning stages.

Especially after the church masacre last week in Baghdad, I believe that it is highly possible that a similar attack could take place in the US.

Tonight 4 middle-eastern men were seen down our childrens' wing at our church. They were walking briskly and talking in Arabic.

A woman spotted them at the other end of the hall. She tried to catch up to them but they exited into the lobby and by the time she got to it they had disappeared. A few people looked but no one saw them leave the building.

There was no reason for anyone to be down that hallway. There were no children's programs going. It's possible that they could have taken a wrong turn. But it just doesn't feel right.

This is the 3rd incident since last March involving young middle-eastern men. The first one involved them asking odd questions about the size of our services, questions about the children's area, even requesting a layout of the building.

The FBI has been alerted and its been discovered that at least one other church in the area has had a similar incident take place.

I'm writing this here because I think there are alot of FReepers who attend church. I would ask you to inquire whether anything unusual has happened in recent months in your church. Especially if you are a large church. And especially if you are located in the Detroit area.

We must be willing to think about these things (not obsess over them) but reasonably consider the possibility. Thank you.

Questioning where the children’s services are held? I’d be worried about a potential hostage situation.

I’m surprised that your church’s security staff even let this take place. The evangelical church I attended for nearly 20 years before I left last year had tremendous security. Cops on duty at all services, ostensibly directing traffic but also keeping an eye on things; all services monitored from a mirrored security booth; parishioners who are LEOs always armed and watchful; lights, locks, alarm systems, and controlled access to anywhere children might be. They take this very seriously. We have lots of Muslims in the area. There have been some threats to the much-loved pastor, although no one has said explicitly what the threats are or whether they came from Muslims or just from troubled people in the community. My strong suspicion is that they just came from evil/sick people in the community rather than from any local Muslims.

The fact is, probably all churches that have ministries for troubled people—recovering alcoholics, single and divorced parents with lots of drama in their lives, problem teens who need guidance—should focus on security, because these outreach functions can attract people who have serious psychological problems. Churches also handle lots of money. It’s really unwise for your church to be so loosely supervised that four men whom no one knows can walk in.

Keep a cam charged up and ready. In fact place few around the building where you can pick one up in a hurry.

...at least they weren’t Episcopalians...
(If you ever see ‘Bishop’ Spong show up, you’d have to fumigate the place...)
It was the likes of Episcopalian heretics like Spong that helped to create the jelly spined culture we live in now. The Episcopal Church has done its dance with the devil, and all orthodox Anglicans have left.

The children's wing figures prominently in your story? Two questions.

1) Is that where Sunday School takes place?

2) Do you have a children's Christmas Pageant?

These Muslims may be looking at pulling of another Beslan.

I have a suggestion.

Next time people like that show up in church, make sure someone tells them the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“Remember the story of actor James Woods witnessing a dry run on one of his flights before a month before 9/11?”

And remember how the authorities blew him off? Woods isn’t an idiot; he’s one of the members of Mensa who isn’t eccentric and quasi-loony.

I would carry one whether it’s legal or not. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I took the id “neighbor of the beast” because I used to live next to an islamist compound. They really liked to make people nervous (when they weren’t actually committing crimes). I asked the brainiac in my life to tell me what they were saying, now and then. One time it was a discussion of the possibility of getting accused of something and whining that their civil rights were violated because they were suspected as muslims.
So, your situation could be some guys trying to cash in like the flying imams or many another schemer.
Or it could be much worse. Not trying to “unalarm” you at all. But the obviousness of the behavior you describe, does seem peculiar.

If you see anyone suspicious, I say follow them as they leave. (But then, I have stalker instincts.)

What a great site! I've been looking for good info about carrying my Texas permit in other states.
