Just Spoke W/ Very Senior Ret. USAF Officer. Says USAF, NORAD, Etc. Have "No Clue" About Missile.

Just spoke with old friend, very senior retired USAF general officer/pilot. Says his contacts, many of whom were his "boys," have no idea what Pacific missile is/was

As I was calling him, he was calling me to run my old network traps to see if anyone at the network desks in NY or DC have any idea what this was!

Data from video seems to be that it was large, ballistic, (not cruise) sub-launched. Course seemed to be trans-polar, so could have impacted in Arctic, Russian Far East, China, etc.

Current guesses... and these are wild guesses (some from the O Club at his lunch)

1: Crazy Russian or Chinese sub captain. No explosion because they didn't want one, or captain did not have correct codes for the PAL.

2: Islamic.......... ????? Demonstration?????

3: Hoax... but that seems way to far fetched.

Navy is also supposedly bat sh*t over this because there was no acoustic detection of sub!

NORAD scratching head ????

There may be an explanation, but no one knows what it was... or is!

I disagree completely. It looks exactly like a rocket contrail and nothing like an airplane contrail.

So, are you saying that if a unexplained and suspected rocket launch happened off our coast no government agency would care?

It's not a suspected rocket launch. NORAD and DOD have specifically ruled out a rocket launch. DOD for ours, NORAD for all others. And NORAD has ruled out any threat. They are done with it except for having to answer questions from the curious.

It's not their priority to identify non-threatening, not rocket, contrails. They happen all the time.

Ok. We disagree. If you could show me a rocket contrail that looks like this one, I’d be more inclined to agree with you.

They never start in one compass point of the sky and end in the same compass point.

It would if it were moving up away from you.

Somebody is just jealous of the Norway Spiral, and wanted one of their own. I bet it is a UFO being launched from an undersea base... :)

So, a news story lingers of rocket launch off the coast of California for 24 hours and they think this is a good thing? When all they would have to do is an hour investigation and say, “The helicopter caught footage of flight ??? on route to HI.” Or whatever the case may be... They sure don’t have to explain every contrail, but they sure as hell should explain the ones that go national and are on every news channel, national blog in the world. Jeez, that can not be that stupid, can they???

If it were moving away from you it would have passed over you or began its flight in front of you. The only thing in front of the camera filming it is open water and a few islands that don’t have airfields on them. The entire contrail, from bottom to top, is to the west of the coast.

I am still open-minded, but leaning towards Alaska Air Flight #225 or #221.

FUKR (think about it) ;-)

Cheers!

It was a local story until CBS picked it up so perhaps now they'll assign someone to identify the flight. Maybe they have higher priorities or don't want to set a precedent. Maybe they're waiting for the First Lady to call and ask them to investigate it. :)

Essentially the same story lingered in OC last year with the same speculation and results.

I tend to agree with Pike: send out a major to belabor the obvious and get it over with. When some news media does it again - and they will - rinse and repeat.

They really are common and take all kinds of interesting shapes and forms. I've photographed quite a few myself.

Here's a collection of contrail/cloud/sunset photos.

“If so, the foreign submarine that launched may have already been destroyed which is also something we may not wish to talk about”

the tell on this one would be a surprising aggressive economic (probably) action by china in the next week or so, seemingly overreactive to the stated reasons.

Wonder how many Obama voters are NOW thinking “Oh sh$t.”

I'd say that number is somewhere between slim and none.

Big screen TVs are still working, aren't they? No prob. Prolly just one of them secret military thangs. Back to Oprah...

I think this one:

shows flights over LA better. Sunset was about 4:53, so 4:30 on should give an idea of the possibilities.. ?

Just had to commend you on this very accurate reflection of how so many think/live.

Why would this not show up on Radar? I would think the airports should have a record of it.

There is probably some poor US sub captain considering suicide about now.

I'm far from an expert on such things, but I believe that the military protocols for launching a missile from a sub are pretty involved and very strict.

There's no simply pushing a big red button by accident, from what I know of this stuff.

Navy going Bat S*it! LOL

Bat S*ht is nothing to sneeze at when you are underwater 3 months at a time! LOL

Seriously.....

We have to look at other possible causes. Hubby says it looks like a solid fuel contrail. He knows more than I do, he spent a LOT of time on a boomer.
