Dancing With the Stars: Shock and Awe in the Ballroom (Free Republic blamed)
The Toronto Star ^ | Wednesday, November 17, 2010 | Debra Yeo

The Internet's been buzzing with talk about how members of the U.S. Tea Party movement have been getting out the vote for Bristol Palin on Dancing With the Stars.

The blog Jezebel had a post about it today, complete with quotes from conservative message boards about how Bristol's supporters were exploiting ABC's email voting system to cast multiple ballots for Sarah Palin's daughter.

Jezebel quoted one site, FreeRepublic.com, that urged its members to "make liberal heads explode" by voting for Bristol, "even though she is not the best dancer."

Well, my liberal head is kind of exploding right now because Bristol made the finals on DWTS at the expense of a far superior dancer, Brandy.

And if Bristol thinks she made it just on the quality of her dancing, that's about as believable as seeing Russia from her mother's house. Even if her presence in the final three isn't part of some right-wing voting conspiracy, Bristol's appeal to viewers isn't strictly about skill on the dancefloor.

Maybe it's her youth, what Len Goodman called her vulnerability or the fact she's not typical Hollywood, which is the argument she herself made on Monday's show. And there's no denying she's come a long way since Week 1, given that she had no previous dance experience.

But in my opinion, the three best dancers aren't in the finale and I'm bummed about that.

DWTS is a pure Voting Democracy in action
**********************
Actually, that's not true. Bristol may actually have lost, several times already. BUT, the producers wanted to gamble on the controversy that keeping Bristol would produce, which would bring more viewers.

Sure it's true :) The Producers are like candidate handlers and committees during primaries- they bring the public people like Obama and McLame for all us viewers to vote on.

Then it's up to the 'fans' to vote for their choice - some fans are very good at "Get Out the Vote" - "Rock the Vote" and work the system...this is the system being worked as laid out - they are very similar.

The Palin viewer base (and those not watching but voting) is very excited to vote this season (election)

It’s not a democracy because you can vote as many times as you like...but that’s how all those type of shows work.

The great thing is, Bristol can handle herself in this vortex of negativity...

I’m so proud of Bristol for being able to handle this all so very well...

Just stop. Please.

Bristol is not a very good dancer

I'm not a frequent watcher of DWTS but my guess is Emmitt Smith wasn't the best dancer when he won.

When Bristol was invited to be on the show, if the intent was to get a new, bigger audience, hasn't it worked?

Apparently it has worked. I still don’t watch (we cut the cable, yay!) but I follow. Go Bristol!

The show format is not structured to select the best dancers for advancement. It is structured to advance the most popular dancers.

Sort of how our election system, as modified over the years, is now structured to elect the most popular candidate as president instead of the most qualified candidate. After all, that is how Obama got into the White House.

Once you appeal to populism you have no room to complain about a lack of qualifications and professionalism.

Bristol is not a very good dancer.

Barack Obama is not even ELIGIBLE to be president. He his "winning" endangers all the world. Liberals are joyous in committing vote fraud and election rigging. They do it ALL the time. They LOVE it. They do it in positions of REAL IMPORTANCE.

The liberals in Alaska are rigging the election for Murkowski. The liberals in Massachusetts changed the law to replace a Senator to popular election when a Republican was governor and changed it back to gubernatorial appointment went a Democrat was governor -- in order to rig a Democrat. In Nevada vote fraud of as much as 6% won the Senate re-election of Democrat Harry Reid. In New York City liberal Mike Bloomberg insisted on changing city charter to allow HIM a third term and now wants that charter changed back to the old two-term limit. In Minnesota Al Franken pulled stunt after stunt in the courtroom to allow every fraudulent vote to be counted. In the biggest liberal states -- absentee ballots to the military abroad are delayed beyond being able to be voted, because the military heavily favors non-liberals. In New Jersey when Senator Torricelli resigned because of corruption charges too late in a re-election cycle to have his name removed from the ballot, a liberal court forced all counties to bear the great expense of changing it anyway to allow a Democrat to run, something they would NOT have done for a similar Republican or other party candidate.

In my own heavily GOP district we have gone un-represented in our State Senate for nearly a year because the Democrat official in charge of scheduling replacement elections refused to do so to maintain a one-vote majority in the State Senate.

These are just a few of the examples of fraud and election rigging welcomed by liberals in REAL LIFE, important offices that impact everyone.

Hooray for Bristol Palin! I hope she wins it all!

IT IS AFTER ALL A POPULARITY CONTEST.

We should be joyous to be able to give the libs a taste of the bitterness of elections won by fraud, when we can do it in an election that is as meaningless as this!

The American people like to see the underdog win!!!

No.

We like to see the underdog win 'occassionally'.

If the underdog won every time, it would be boring.

But that's with a one shot contest.

In this case, with a stream of contests leading up to the final playoff, the underdog is usually kept in until the final stage, where they graciously lose to the superior talent.

One only has to ponder WHY they picked Bristol Palin to even appear on the show, to understand the purpose the PRODUCERS had in putting her on, and keeping her there as long as it keeps more viewers watching.

I see voting for Bristol as a way to send a message

Send it to who? The producers of the show only saw this message from 'us' : "MORE VIEWERS, MORE MONEY"

P.S. Does it cost (charged on your phone bill) to vote?

"The Internet's been buzzing with talk about how members of the U.S. Tea Party movement have been getting out the vote for Bristol Palin on Dancing With the Stars. "

The internet buzzed about all the voter fraud committed by SEIU and the ACORN "movement" putting obama in the White House...but you never heard a word about it.

In this day and time almost everyone has either a home phone, a cell phone, or a computer with internet access. NOTHING....NOTHING stopped anyone else from calling in their votes for whomever on DWTS.

These people need to direct their ire towards the show's producers and ask them to change the voting system next year if this viewer-voting is going to be a problem. But like one freeper said, if there was a gay guy dancing, all of the gays in the world would have padded the vote for him.

An earlier post said it might turn into a racial problem...well, every black person I see in my daily rounds is talking on a cell phone, or has a bluetooth in their ear...so they can call in and vote too.

DWTS differs from America's Got Talent in that there is specific technique to consider in addition to the entertainment factor. AGT is based mostly on entertainment.

If DWTS is going to be about technique, then don't do the viewer voting, just rely on those three clowns on the show that call themselves "fair and impartial" judges.

But there is going to be fireworks from this; I noticed Jennifer Gray's face and the other couple last night when Bristol was announced as a finalist, and they were NOT happy about it.

Well, as Forrest Gump coined, $h!t Happens.

everybody makes mistakes especially when they are young and put into the limelight by something their parents do. We have to learn from our mistakes, hopefully. I think back at some of the stupid things I have aid and done and can’t believe that was me.

I thought that by ‘pure’, you meant legal and proper, and highest votes wins.

Since neither our VOTING DEMOCRACY, nor the DWTS call-in voting system work that way, I guess you are right.

The Internet's been buzzing with talk about how members of the U.S. Tea Party movement have been getting out the vote for Bristol Palin on Dancing With the Stars.

On the other hand, there was almost no buzz at all on the internet about how members of the "African American Community" got out over 95% of the black vote for fellow black, Barack Obama.
