Empire Strikes Back was the perfect middle act of the trilogy. It was the best made movie of the series.

I took my parents to see it when it was in the Theater. Without having seen the first one they were completely lost.

One of my favorites of his is Raid on Entebbe. Awesome cast, and very good for a made-for-TV history.

A Fine Madness was about 1964 or so ... when Sean was not welcome in Hollyweird.

Never Say Never Again was alright.

Robocop 2 was butchered, he took plenty of things out of Frank Miller's script (long before Frank moved from writing and drawing comic books like Batman - The Dark Night Returns to making movies like Sin City and 300). He claims it was a bad script to begin with.

I used to agree with the meme that Empire Strikes Back was the best of the Star Wars films. After Lucas messed with the series and filmed a trilogy of prequels, I have to disagree.

Star Wars I (chapter IV) can stand on its own. Yes Vader gets away. Lives again to fight another day as do other cinema villains.

Star Wars II (Empire Strikes Back, Chapter V) ends with an outright cliffhanger, too many dangling plot threads. Hero has his hand cut off. Vader escapes. Han Solo is deep frozen. And you'd better have seen the first film to understand the characters (not so with the Bond series).

Star Wars III (Return/Revenge of the Jedi, Chapter VI) ends with Ewok teddy bear toy salesmen. And if we are to understand the story, it was only the end of the second trilogy, three more chapters will never be filmed.

So what then? Do we watch “Chapters I-III” next ending with the Revenge of the Sith (2005)? That will likewise leave the viewer with an unfulfilled reaction to the series.

But a viewer can enjoy A New Hope and be done with the matter.

Just watched ESB this weekend. I agree, the best of the series, though for me I needed Return of the Jedi to make me realize how good it was.

I though the best part of ESB was the training with Yoda.

"Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try." -- Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter." -- Yoda

Off subject but the aliens in the Star Wars movies always appear fake/hoakey to me. My wife thinks that was done on purpose to kinda play with the 1950’s style movie campiness.

Aliens in much less budget movies appear more real.

Thoughts??
