New cat Jock moves into Chartwell
BBC ^ | 29 Nov 2010 | unattributed

A new kitten has taken up residence at Chartwell, thanks to a request by Sir Winston Churchill.

Churchill owned a marmalade coloured cat which he named Jock, after Sir Jock Colville, one of his private secretaries.

Churchill requested that there should always be a cat with four white paws and a white bib "in comfortable residence".

Jock V now lives in the top flat and has an unlikely love of water.

According to staff at the house, he spends his time exploring and being pampered, and "jumps into the sink at every opportunity".

The original Jock meant so much to Churchill that he attended many war-time cabinet meetings with him and rumour has it that meals in the Churchill household did not commence until "ginger" tabby Jock was present at table.

Jock Colville, the person, wrote a very interesting memoir about his time as one of Churchill's private secretaries during WWII. His working style was eccentric, to say the least.

>> The original Jock meant so much to Churchill &etc

I feel exactly the same way about my own “marmalade coloured” tabby!

So this is Jock V; Jocks I — IV must have lived long lives!

Fascinating man Churchill. The 'right person' for his pivotal position in history.
It seems that every time I read more about him I discover another interesting facet. Just the right mix of intellect, bravado and disregard for convention.

He was truly the man of the century. Time gave it to Einstein but it matters not. He has more than enough honours. The one I like the most is that Pol Roger champagne named its luxury brand after him. To me that tops a Nobel or Time magazine. I have a feeling bon vivant Churchill would agree with me.

Just remember that dogs have owners while cats have staff.

Our pair of each impresses that on us daily!

When WSC became Prime Minister in May 1940, he and his family had moved into Ten Downing Street, which had a resident cat, Lady Soames recalls: “He was treated with great kindness but we disrespectfully named him Munich Mouser, since he was a holdover from Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s administration.”

LOL

This is what he'd look like Post-mush...

Why would you want to mush him? I mean, barbeque may be tastier...

Or Bo. How curious that the dog gets named after The Won's initials! If the girls were so stuck on the name they could have at least named him Beau or Beaux. Also, it sure seems like Mo gets stuck walking him a lot. I thought he was supposed to be their pet?
