A University of Colorado student who started wearing hijab after converting to Islam is fighting the Boulder County Jail's insistence that she remove her headscarf for a booking photo, saying that to do so would violate her religious beliefs.
Maria Hardman, 19, of Boulder, reported to the jail Wednesday to do the paperwork for a two-day work crew sentence that was supposed to be served this weekend. But when a jail detention officer told her to remove her headscarf for her mug shot, she balked.
"It's stated in the Koran in two or three places that believing women should wear the veil, except in the company of close family members," she said.
Hardman said she spent three hours at the jail while her lawyer tried to convince officials to let her take the picture with her scarf. She eventually was allowed to leave the jail without taking a picture at all. She said she was told she would be found in contempt of court for being out of compliance with her sentence.

Exactly! This also goes for silly twenty something women who get involved with “gansta” types due to it being popularized as “OK” in the media. They wind up dead or missing and their families wonder why. . .

I know what you are talking about. Many American women have several children (not always by the same daddy too) so they marry these rag heads and become Muzzies because, and I say this quite frankly, these are the only men who will have them and their clan. These men are getting citizenship and these women are getting a husband (and meal ticket) that would would not otherwise be getting.
As for the hijab this woman is wearing. You all will hate me for saying this but as long as it does not cover her face it is okay to wear it in a mugshot or other forms of ID. It is the burqua or niqab that completely covers the face, not the hijab.

Bet she’s not ME race. More like another American idiot who has their brains fried! Moslems go after them like a dog in heat...they know they can manipulate them..and with the youth in our country so dense I will not be surprised they are the ones that will one day lead this nation to accepting Islam.

My limited experience tells me if you fight the law, the law wins.

In what jurisdiction are you responsible for determining the criteria used to identify criminals and where did you receive the brunt of your experience and education in this field?
Also do all of the agencies nationwide contact you on a case by case basis every time a criminal takes exception to the methods used to run a incarceration type facility?
