For now, the only members of Chico's city Council that have a clue are
Mark Sorensen (L) just sworn in and Larry Wahl (R) who is leaving
to assume a Butt County Supervisor seat he won.
Last night was just the second time in my 22 years living in Chico that I suffered through an evening of listening to what the members of the Chico City Council had to say. If it weren't for Mark Sorensen's actually winning and being sworn in, I would not have been there last night. Now that it is over, I am glad I did go, not only because I was able to see a conservative get sworn in, but also because I was actually able to watch the way Socialists determine what is important for the citizens of Chico.
The three candidates receiving the most votes are being
sworn in (L to R) Scott Gruendl, Mary Flyn, & Mark Sorensen
I was going to go over the many items discussed at last night's meeting, but instead I decided to inform you that Chico is broke. Yup you heard me correctly. Fact is, not only is the city broke, but also it is $9 million in debt. I listened for two hours as they went over the city's finances, and it became very evident that while the media has been reporting that Chico has a balanced budget over $41,000 in the black, the truth is they lied. If my wife and I balanced our checkbook the way the Chico City Council balances theirs, we would be in jail for grand larceny. I don't care how they explain it to the public; the city is $9 million in debt. If you are curious though, Scott Gruendl and Jim Walker both think the developers and the citizens are at fault for the way the council and their liberal cohorts have spent $9 million the city didn't have.
So with the city being $9 million in debt, I bet you figure they were spending the evening trying to find a way to get out of the red, right? Well, not really. Instead, they spent their time taking more rights away from the citizens of Chico. To start with, they voted 4-3 to force an entrepreneur named Mike to quit playing his music so loud while driving his clients around in his zero-emission Bicycle Cab. These liberals seem to think that they should regulate his bike as they do cars.
At the suggestion of Larry Wahl they did agree to spend a moment in silence honoring those who died at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked us in 1942. I must say that I was quite shocked and surprised because I half expected the five Socialist members of the City Council to take a moment and apologize for the bombs Truman dropped on Japan to end the war. But hey, they made up for that when the same five Socialists voted 5-2 to begin the process of banning all non-compliance wood stoves within the city limits of Chico by next Winter. Oh, they did decide to re-educate the public about the need to have clean air though. There goes more non-productive money being spent that the city does not have.
Now, the Council was not completely anti business because they did vote 6-1 for the approval of a liquor license, and they gave a standing ovation to a retiring Socialist member of the Council. That would be the seat that Mark Sorensen won in the election. At least we're replacing a Socialist with a Conservative, so things are looking up.
Finally, I want to congratulate Mark on his first official day as a Chico City Council member. Mark, you are now a member of one of the most liberal city councils in the State of California. It is my prayer that the Good Lord will grant you the grace and patience needed to put up with these Socialists for the next 2 years. Maybe then we can get some help for you. After all, as soon as Larry Wahl steps down to assume his new Butte County Supervisor seat, you will truly be alone in a Socialist world.
I think I'll be attending more of these City Council meetings in the future. I feel as though I should keep track of the way things are going because 2012 is just around the corner.

Yeah, but all of us who have lived there called it “BUTT” county! :)
I tried correcting her once. The shoulder healed okay but still acts up when a storm is coming.
But really, they seem about the ONLY Asian immigrants who are not culturally motivated towards hard work and higher education! We already have plenty of minorities culturally motivated towards government benefits and criminality!!!!
We did not need more!
This disease is prevalent in every small Calif town with a CSU nearby and Arcata is a prime example as not only do they ban nuclear material through the stinking hell hole but they have had a Sister City relationship with town in Nicaragua since Reagan was president.
You did good. Your proofing make me look better than I deserve. So I wouldn’t sweat it.
I did that myself. Once.
Didn’t see her for three days.
On the fourth day the swelling had gone down in one eye and I saw her just a little bit.
This is for certain, and the crazyness ratchets up where you have a UC campus ( just take a look at Santa Cruz). But it isn’t particular to California. Everywhere there is an “institution of higher learning” you have a city or town that is, like Chico, a “Peoples Republic,” with the probable exception of Hillsdale College and maybe Brigham Young U. These places are continually sowing the seeds of Marxism and have been doing so for a very long time.
Chico’s misapplication of effort is a microcosm of CA, and why that state is circling the drain.
Very true... especially in the town of Davis.
Actually the UC system for Davis, but the same result.
Vike,
I’ve asked folks the world over what they thought of the politicians where ever they were from.
To a one they’ve all said they are crooks.
Japan, Australia, England, Nigeria, Cuba, Canada, Folks from EVERY state, Jews, Muslims, You name it. South Korea, Israel, Jordan,
Bufoons and crooks.
Double dose: Sac State, as well as UCD.
Another agreement here about Sac State and UCD. I have never sent UCD a dime since I graduated, but I still get the alum and College of Ag magazines. More and more disgusting each month, leftist tripe. I don’t know why I torment myself but I like to see what fellow graduates might be doing....
Thanks for the ping!
