OF course you can murder someone in NC and be back out on the street in a couple of years.

The way I see it, his son would have to live to about 190 for Bernie to be able to attend his funeral if he serves his full sentence.

The guy is in prison for crying out loud, he should have thought of such things like attending funeral before he broke the law.

The language is biased. Shouldn’t it be more like “Government doesn’t have funds to take prisoner Madoff on guarded trip to son’s funeral.”

Alas, why spend the money to lock them up in the first place.

Coo Hand Luke didn’t get to attend his momma’s funeral....in fact, “Boss” put him in the hole so he wouldn’t go rabbit on ‘em.

More to the point:

“Government doesn’t have funds to transport and guard prisoners to attend funerals.”

In a case like Madoff’s where they took every cent he could muster to his name to partially remunerate his victims, it would seem obvious. As it is, he’s in a white collar crime joint anyhow instead of boxed up like a violent rape murderer, he’ll be able to see the movie of the funeral as often as he wishes.

Good, because the poor dead sob would fly out of his coffin to strangle his evil bastard father before the first shovel full of dirt hits it.

Ashes to ashes-dust to dust-if the misery don't get you—having a sorry greedy pos for a daddy who ruins you and your loved ones’ life—must.

That's what the judges think, apparently, especially when it comes to illegals and repeat offenders. They don't even bother to cut off their monitoring bracelet when they commit armed robbery.

Of course, then there’s Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd who stole more money from Americans than Madoff could have ever dreamed of stealing.

What (exactly) did Madoff do that our congress doesn’t do regularly?

Madoff is such a lowlife, I doubt whether he gives any larger a damn about his sons than he did about his trusting clients! The only reason I can think of why he would desire to attend the funeral would be to get outside the walls for a few hours and see the outside one more time.

Not a word about the son’s mother. She got upset because she couldn't keep her mink coat during the ordeal didn't she?

Yeah, but they are politicians not criminals.

They should have been censured IMO however. /MS
