Was Patton killed?
New York Post ^ | December 18, 2010 | ROBERT K. WILCOX

Sixty-five years ago this month, Gen. George S. Patton Jr., hero of World War II and an outspoken critic of the Soviets, was en route to a Sunday hunting trip, a day before permanently leaving Europe, when he was critically injured in a vehicle accident on a deserted two lane highway near Mannheim, Germany.

A large US army truck that Patton’s driver later said was waiting for them, suddenly — and without signaling — abruptly turned into his limousine’s path, causing a head-on crash. Even though Patton had an aide with him and the driver of the truck had one or two passengers in the cab, no one but Patton was hurt. He suffered a paralyzing broken neck.

Despite it being early on a no-work day, a horde of military personnel, including a brigadier general, quickly arrived at the scene. And although there were facilities in Mannheim, he was taken to a hospital 20 miles away where, when he arrived, the prognosis was bad. They expected him to die.

But the tough general, vowing to go home and tell “block-busting secrets,” rallied. And in a little over a week he was fit enough to be readied for a grueling trans-Atlantic flight home. On the eve of that flight, he had a sudden relapse. Blood embolisms choked his breathing. Within 24 hours he was dead.

He was assassinated by the Russians to keep from finishing the war. He was also a threat to FDR as a Presidential candidate, he may have changed our future.

FDR died eight months before Patton did.

However, I agree that the circumstances surrounding his death have always been suspicious.

His lineage, the time at vmi and west point, the olympics where he got 5th in the pentahlon, etc.

As for the bonus army stuff, he was not alone in that and was following orders. Yes it sucked and the govt was to blame for not honoring its obligations, not patton individually.

Patton aspired to be the Commander at West Point after the war ... IIRC ...

General "Beetle" (?????) (Patton's nemisis as seen in the movie) was "not" invited to Patton's funeral ...

====================================

Patton's chief contributions in World War II ?

1) Patton led a defeated and demoralized American Army to victory against Rommel in North Africa

2) Patton pulled a brilliant tactical move against the Germans in Sicilcy ... which ...

3) Caused the Germans to FEAR Patton so much that Eisenhower was able to (successfully) use Patton as a Decoy for the Normandy invasion ...

Honestly, had not Rommel's genuis and his armored divions been (foolishly) been left behind at Calais ... Normandy would have been another Gallopi ...

4) Patton's brillant (again) Blitzkrieg attacks against the Germans (after Normandy) paved the way to an Allied victiry ...

5) Finally, Patton's guts and genius saved the 101st Airborne's (glorious) behinds at Bastogne ...

6) Last, but NOT least, Patton was the ONLY World War general with the "brains" and non-PC attitude to write and mass-distribute the famous "Bastogne Prayer" ... whose successful clearing of the skies allowed the US Army Airforce to decimate the German forces ...

General Patton "clearly" acknowledged the Lordship of The Almighty in this event ...

====================================

General Patton was the kind of man that Americans will "always" want to follow into battle ...

Wonder if Mark Levin would have any opinion on this, being that he’s a big admirer of Patton.

FDR was reelected in 44 and would not stand for reelection, and coronation, until 48. I am not so sure Patton would have been his adversary. Truman was always worried about MacArthur and of course that never came to fruition either as MacArthur lost the first primary he was in effectively killing any hope he could win.

That said, I do believe there was a conspiracy to take him out. He openly was using former Nazi party members. While our OSS was also using these same people, they did not wish it to be become an issue after the war ended. So, I believe our own government had more to do with his demise than did the soviets although I would not put it past them. They did try to take out Gen Haig years later when he was in charge of SHAPE. Interestingly, they tried to kill him while he was in a vehicle.

And who ordered Charles J. Guiteau to assassinate President Garfield?

This picture was taken at the exact moment that Garfield was told about the assassination of President Garfield. At first glance, he appears to be surprised, but if you stare at the picture for a few moments, you will notice that it is not a look of surprise, but rather elation.

I think Johnny Cash had his ancestor’s order it, so he could write a song about it later

...the opportunity for punishment is long gone.

If the conspiracy theories were proved correct, then SOMEBODY must be punished. I nominate La Raza. Wipe 'em out.

Makes as much sense as punishing all of us financially today for the sins of slavery perpetrated by the people who lived 150 to 400 years ago.

Hm. “Block-busting secrets.” Makes you wonder if they had anything to do with what his fellow (but much more liberal and friendly-to-the-Soviets) General, Dwight Eisenhower, was referring to in his farewell speech, when he warned about the “military-industrial complex.” [You can see Ike’s speech at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y06NSBBRtY or read it at http://www.h-net.org/~hst306/documents/indust.html.]

Patton’s death occurred 65 years ago Tuesday.

This kind of thread always draws the folks who scoff at the idea and post messages ridiculing this or any 'conspiracy theory'. I can see why.

General Patton's death was under questionable circumstances and he was a 'controversial' figure but I see no hard evidence of an assassination conspiracy. Frankly, after 65 years, even if Patton was killed because he was publicly opposed to Democrat presidents too-cozy accommodations with the then-dangerous Soviet Union, it is virtually impossible to prove and, 65 years later, there is no one left to prosecute. Interesting theory - but hardly worth pursuing.

Exactly, Roosevelt had no problem with communists nor communism. He was always busy trying to figure out how to incorporate its principles into our representative republic.

Well, yes, it is worth pursuing, from the standpoint that there’s always a war above the war that most see, and it’s much more viscous, interesting and important for the future.

Even more amazing is the fact that the Titanic sank exactly 47 years (and some months and days) after Lincoln’s “assassination”.

And recall how Obama mentioned "57 states", which is 47 plus 10, the number of the horns of the Beast of Revelation?

And 57 +47 = 104, and 104 FM plays easy-listening mellow rock you can listen to at home, at the office, or on the road? And they played commercials for Lincoln car dealership Kennedy Pontiac?

We're through the looking glass here people...

I once read the detailed story of Patton’s last days. One thing which differs from the story here is that his driver was driving recklessly.

The guy who drove Patton all through the war was from Abbeville, Alabama and never had an accident. He had gone home just before the accident and Patton got a young reckless driver which Patton, of course just loved.

The accident was just that, an accident. Patton was extremely unlucky as he was the only one seriously hurt.

At first he did not do well then a Scottish Doctor was called in and ordered hooks be attached to Patton’s cheekbones which had weights attached to them. This worked and his neck eventually straightened out.

Just as it looked like Patton was going to recover, he had a sudden setback and died.

The only place I can see where there may have been a conspiracy/murder was at the very last but I doubt even that.

There is one interesting possibility. Patton ordered that Beadle Smith not be allowed at his funeral. I think Smith was in fact sympathetic to the Communists and was in a position of great power.

Conspiracy, no. Automobile accident, yes.

Oh you're no fun anymore.

Patton was obviously killed because the person he was riding with that day was Gay.

I’ve got a copy of that prayer in my wallet. It was given to me by Patton’s granddaughter at a dinner in Luxembourg celebrating the 60th anniversary of VE day. My Dad, who served in Patton’s Ghost Troops, still has his original. You should have seen the look on her face when she offered him a copy, only to have him reach into his wallet and pull out his original!

The war museum in Bastogne is amazing.

For anyone who hasn’t read the entire card:

Back Side:

HEADQUARTERS
THIRD UNITED STATES ARMY

To each officer and soldier in the Third United States Army. I wish a Merry Christmas. I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We march in our might to complete victory. May God’s blessing rest upon each of you on the Christmas Day.

G. S. Patton, JR.
Lieutenant General,
Commanding, Third United States Army

Front Side:

PRAYER

Almighty and most merciful Father, we humbly beseech thee, of Thy great goodness, to restrain these immoderate rains with which we have had to contend. Grant us fair weather for Battle. Graciously hearken to us as soldiers who call upon Thee that armed with Thy power, we may advance from victory to victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our enemies, and establish Thy justice amoung men and nations.

Amen.
